Rated 1 de 5 de par Stay away !!! I bought this product in july, 2020, using it for 3 summer months last year, at my cottage to dehumidify the basement, then put it away for the winter. In may 2021 I started using it again . Everything was good until this month (sept, 2021) it iced up on the coil (enclosed picture). I contacted Toshiba recently to complain about it, they asked me to send them pictures of the frosted unit, the receipt and the serial number of the unit. And at the end, they told me that the unit was out of warranty and they could not do anything about it. Stay away from this product before it's too late...

Rated 2 de 5 de par Design flaw renders unit very hard to empty This was a replacement for a 30 year old dehumidifier that worked well until it was exhausted. Choices were very limited locally and the pandemic made out of town shopping impossible. There were no open display units in the store so you had to depend on the box labeling. The unit is labeled as 50 pints though the fine print on the box says that it is 40 pints as per Canadian standards. It is noisier than expected but is placed in the basement so is not as worrisome as if it had been put on the main floor. It runs well and extracts considerable moisture from the air. However, the design of the water bucket is such a major flaw and I would not recommend it for seniors or anyone with and back issues or poor hand strength. The water container fights into the unit very tightly. You need to grasp it by both side edges and tug it forcibly to get it out. When reinserting it, you have to slide it back in part way and almost pound it with your fist to get it in the rest of the way. The extremely odd shaped bucket does not have an even bottom and will tip and spill if you are not very careful removing it. To get it out, you have to pull it out a couple of inches, hold it steady with one hand while you reach inside to pull up the handle and then use both hands to slowly remove it from the unit without spilling. Then you have to carry it by the handle to a sink to empty it. The handle is secured only by a bit of thin plastic material and breakage would render the handle useless. The water bucket is long and narrow and very oddly shaped making carrying a full bucket without spillage difficult. You have to raise it up to the sink level and tip it into the sink so that the longest side of the bucket pours into the sink with considerable sloshing. Then you have to wipe down the outside of the bucket before returning it to the unit. In other words, it is an extremely awkward bucket to remove and empty. I have always managed to empty a 40 pint dehumidifier bucket without problems in the past but this one is super difficult. I was tempted to return the unit but could not get it back upstairs by myself. I have opted to keep it by placing a small board cut to protrude from under the unit to steady the bottom of the bucket when it is pulled out a few inches and have obtained a battery operated siphon to drain the water out into a regular pail. That way I need not have to totally remove and empty the dehumidifier bucket. I was going to post this review on the manufacturer's website but their website does not include this model so I wonder if it has been discontinued.

Rated 3 de 5 de par On the fence... I bought this a month ago and it worked well initially. Now the humidity gauge seems all over the place unlike it was for the first week or two. It would read the humidity then slowly drop it as it worked and reached the desired level you set. Now it can vary from 40 to 60 and back to 50 in a matter of a minute or so. Also the last time I emptied the tank there was a grease deposit inside of it near the top right on the flat area. I wondering if the refrigerant is starting to leak out much like it does in a car where it sprays oil out with it. The manual is extremely limited so bot sure what the next step should be. Normal or return it?

Rated 5 de 5 de par Works well Pulled out a full bin of water overnight from my damp basement, brought down the humidity from 77 to 50 very quickly. I originally wanted the 45-pint as it's basically the same and $50 less but i'm happy with the purchase.

Rated 2 de 5 de par Fan runs almost continuously and barely stops It does control the humidity very well. Although the manual is hard to understand and it took sometime for me to set the humidity level manually but once its set up, it automatically turns on and off. One thing which I do not like is that once the fan is stopped it starts again after in less than a minute or so and then runs for couple of minutes. Fan barely stops which is definitely not an energy efficient design. This machine is also noisy but I have it in basement so it doesn't bother me a lot.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Do your homework It is noisy and I have found the instructions are not easy to follow. I’ve gotten more answers to my questions on line. Toshiba has not responded to them.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Leaking rusty liquid I have the 70 Pint version of this model. It’s installed in the basement, draining through a hose. It worked OK for a few months then started leaking brown gooey liquid from the bottom of the unit.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Failed after less than 5 months of use I bought this unit in July of 2020 as other options were out of stock due to Covid. Unit worked ok during the Summer of 2020 and Spring of 2021 although I thought that 1) it was noisier than expected (note that I have no other experiences to compare against and as this was for my basement, noise was not a big concern) and 2) found the unit humidity measurements to be off other humidistats I used to compare. I first noticed a problem about 2 weeks ago (after less than 5 months of usage) when I noticed water on my floor (which btw damaged my floor). Water was coming from a large amount of ice buildup at the lower end of the filter that was melting. I unplugged the unit, let the frost melt and unit to dry. After powering the unit back up, all I got was a fan. I could hear the compressor but no water in the bucket despite the room humidity level back up at ~70% and unit set at 50% and running for hours. I called Toshiba customer care and although the support representative was quite polite and professional, I was informed that there was nothing they could do as my 1 year warranty was 8 days past. Note that I was suggested to test the unit in my bathroom while running a hot shower…with the hope that the high heat/humidity could « reset » the dehumidifier sensors. I will do the bathroom test out of desperation and curiosity but this suggestion is quite telling about the lack of usability and reliability of this product.

my current dehunidifer is constantly tripping the AFCI breaker this year---last year it did not do this? How can i be sure that this one will not do the same??

Posée par: Harvil
My guess is that something's wrong with the motor in your dehumidifier. It may not turn, or the starting capacitor may have failed. I can't promise that a new one won't fail in that manner or in some other manner.

2 questions : 1. can the timer be set to run the dehumidifier on during the day and off at night? 2. if the dehumidifier is in a crawl space where temperatures drop to -2C can it be run at this low temp? Or should it be turned off?

Posée par: gmotyer
1. I've never used the timer. As far as I can tell from the manual, the timer can set the time in the future when the humidifier starts, and the time when it stops. I don't know if this will do what you want. 2. According to the manual, the operating temperature is between 5C and 32C. I only use mine at room temperature, but I suppose it could be turned off when the space becomes too cold. My guess is that your crawl space needs more ventilation or perhaps better insulation.

I know it is an Eco energy product, I would like to know the exact power consumption.

Posée par: Casey
This dehumidifier goes through a cycle around the set point. This behavior makes the power consumption difficult to determine, or even meaningless. Nevertheless, I put mine on a wattmeter. When the compressor come on, it uses 600W. After that, the fan runs for a few minutes, using 80 W. Then the power consumption drops to 1 W when it turns off. So, the average power consumption depends on the duration of the compressor (blowing hot air) stage.

what is the lowest temperature in which it will operate and what size is the drain hose connection?

Posée par: chuck
Hi chuck: Under under 60 F the Toshiba dehumidifier will lose energy efficiency and its evaporator will start to freeze, in spite of its frost detection. The continuous drain hose connector fits a standard garden hose, about 5/8 inch diameter. Thanks for asking and call us at 800-842-1289 for any more specifics! Toshiba Customer Care. The question is the same as the one not answered above. Can the unit be bypassed with a hose to drain? The question is not does it have a pump? (although that would be an excellent question as the photo of the unit shows a tube running up to a sink)

Posée par: donald
I connected a garden hose but does not drain, it fills the bucket.

My clean filter button came on and opened the plastic at the back. My question is that the filter or just the grate? Do you have to buy filters separately?

Posée par: apn263
the filters can be washed by hand with gentle soap and water. Try that
