I could not believe what happened when my wife stained the new wood trim it took me weeks to install around my very expensive new windows. I bought Varathane Golden Oak stain as I have done many times in the past and was trying to match the other wood in the house. It came out DARKER THAN WALNUT. It is really dark!!!! It is not the color of "Golden Oak" at all. It does not look like any of the other wood in the house. I know how hard it is to remove so I will have to live with it. I don't know if the cans were just mislabeled or what happened. The other cans I bought in the past are the desired color. I'm Really disappointed to say the least!!!

Rated 4 de 5 de par Little bit lighter than shown, but satisfied Stain is a little lighter than shown in the picture. I probably could have gotten it a bit darker by leaving it on longer, doing a second coat, or a bit heavier application, but all of those were a little more time than expected. I used this for refinishing of red oak hardwood floors which were fully stripped and sanded to 100g. That being said our floors turned out great. Ensure to mix well. Mix it longer than you think and ensure to get all of the settled solids at the bottom. I would recommend it, but a little disappointed by the lightness.

Rated 5 de 5 de par [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is an excellent stain that is easy to use and provides a uniform stain on various woods. This is easily applied with synthetic brush, foam pad or cloth. I prefer to use a soft cloth for the most uniform results. This provides a nice tone to both hard and soft woods, however note that with multiple coats the color will get considerably darker. This is an oil based product and requires mineral spirits for cleanup and should be used in a well ventilated environment. The stain is fairly quick drying (about 1 hour) and needs to be top coated to protect the wood.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like this brand of stain. I'm a DIY with not much skill, but I had not trouble using this stain and getting a nice result. I used it on some old cabinets in needs of some TLC and they turned out beautifully. The stain goes on easily and wipes off easily. The stain also dries quickly. It has a mild smell and leaves the wood with a nice sheen.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] For those who want to use a solvent based wood stain this product is excellent. This Wood Stain is a high performance stain that requires only 1-coat but since i wanted a deeper color additional coats were applied without issue after a one hour setting time between coats, much faster than traditional wood stains. Easily brushes on without the use of a pre-stain or wood conditioner but sanding the wood in preparation is always best. A protective coat of satin finish polyurethane was applied after a 24 hour drying time to allow the stain to fully penetrate and set. The manufacturer states: Ideal for use on all interior wood projects such as furniture, cabinets, doors and trim, floors and paneling Covers up to 70 sq. ft. Semi-transparent formula imparts beautiful color while enhancing the wood's natural grain Enriched with nano pigments and soy oil for exceptional color clarity and dries in only 1 hour Excellent color clarity Dries to touch in 30 minutes Cleans up with mineral spirits

I noticed that this stain had less smell then the Minwax I used in the past and the little smell it did have dissipated very quickly. Also this color came out looking great on my shelf project.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using this product for many years, I can't say enough good things about it. Love the outcome of the projects I use this on. To be able to put on one coat including stain and polyurethane and have it dry quickly is fantastic. If you want to go all out put two or three coats on with a light sanding in between. This product is very thick and needs to be applied quickly because of its fast drying properties. Easier to put on narrower trim then wide planks. An excellent product!!

Can this be applied over primed boards?

Can this be applied over primed boards?
Posée par: jb
I've applied stain over primed and painted wood with a sprayer, let dry for a day or two then apply a clear matte or satin urethane sprayed also. I've done this especially with wood picture frames that are already painted or varnished.

Could I clean my brushes with paint thinner instead of mineral spirits? It's hard to find mineral spirits at the big box stores now.
Posée par: KQLE
You can, BUT the brushes don't soak up the stain as well afterwards when compared with using mineral spirits....it is worth the search for ease of use and saturation of the stain - we found ours at the Home Depot.

My den has 3 real pine bead board walls. For 17 years nothing was applied to them. Today I coated them with Varathane

Semi gloss EXTERIOR OIL based poly. What can I use to stain them a little darker?
Posée par: ADR
You would have needed to choose the next darker color since applying more than 1 coat of stain is not usually recommended. To get this color to look slightly darker and apply some protection to the surface, a coat of polyurethane does the trick!

Does this stain have a shine to it?

Does this stain have a shine to it?
Posée par: Kelli
No it does not shine. It is not flat, but I would say it has an elegant satin finish. If you want to make it shiny, you will need to apply some varnish.

Best paint for plywood

I bought plywood to build a walk in closet and i want to paint it, what paint i have to use
Posée par: Willbon
I'd use a sealer like kilzs first then a latex paint with primer. Probably get by with two coats of latex with primer and skip the kilz sealer.

I’m planing to work on my deck, I’m sure I have a water pressure treat deck and the other half is red cedar. I believe this gunstock will match the red cedar color. Is these product the right choice for stain a pressure treat wood, and match colors?

Posée par: Pabs
It is a great product but I don't think that this is the correct product to use outdoors I used it to match hardwood flooring inside of my home great match... check to see if it says that it can be used for outdoors if so I would use .

I bought this product and applied on dresser, after 24 hours it is still sticky and not dry why/

Posée par: RAaa
Maybe poor ventilation? Maybe surface wasn't properly prepped? I used this on benches. Can't remember how long it took to dry but now we use them every day and they look beautiful.

Do I put poly over this stain

Posée par: Dawn
It's a good idea, yes. It's a water-based stain, so you'll want a water-based topcoat.
