Rated 4 de 5 de par Little bit lighter than shown, but satisfied Stain is a little lighter than shown in the picture. I probably could have gotten it a bit darker by leaving it on longer, doing a second coat, or a bit heavier application, but all of those were a little more time than expected. I used this for refinishing of red oak hardwood floors which were fully stripped and sanded to 100g. That being said our floors turned out great. Ensure to mix well. Mix it longer than you think and ensure to get all of the settled solids at the bottom. I would recommend it, but a little disappointed by the lightness.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Bath redo If you're looking for a weathered or farmhouse look on pine board, this is a good stain to use. I put it on blue pine in a bath remodel and it came out great.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Satisfied with product Covered well with 2 coats on my unpainted chest of drawers. I left the drawer fronts unstained for a 2 toned mid century mod look.

We used the Minwax then switched because of availability to Varathane Weathered Oak and then needed to switch back to the Minwax so everything we have is the same color. The difference is attached in how light of grey we wanted. We were amazed how well the Varathane stain covers but at the same time wished we didn't buy it because of the added coverage and deeper color versus the light grey we were looking for. We applied this to pine tongue and groove boards. If we wanted more grey of color we would buy this again. For future headache relief, someone should stay purchase stain from the same company as to not have two different colors when the name of the color is supposedly the same.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Looks like a bad spray tan This stain is not as pictured. Unless you want bright orange wood, I would not buy this stain.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Not the color indicated This is a grey wash color and nothing like the color indicated in the can. Applied to untreated pine. See picture

Rated 1 de 5 de par Not as shown, not even close... Mysteriously, the label photo of the stain's color fails to reveal what "Hazelwood" is: a distinctively gray stain which couldn't be more different than the picture. Too lazy to return it (bought during Covid curbside pick-up and paid by PayPal), I'll find some other use for it.

i'm really confused by the polar opposite reviews. i'm especially bothered by the image attached to the 1-star review and the "tough xxxx" response from the manufacturer. i'm having 2 custom pieces made and this is the stain i was going to tell the carpenter to use. as the 1-star reviewer stated, the color on the wood is absolutely nothing like the color represented on the can (or in the brochure). i would have a melt down if what is presented in the 1-star reviewer's image was delivered to me. so my questions are: 1. 1-star reviewer, did you inadvertently purchase a grey stain or was it actually the weathered oak? 2. rustoleum, how on earth could wood type cause an oak-colored stain to be flat grey? 3. 5-star reviewer, was the color of the stain pictured on the can accurate? thank you.

The Varathane Weathered Oak stain covers really well and to be honest too well....5 stars The Varathane Weathered Oak stain is not close to the color on the can. (1 star). If you purchase a can of Classic Grey, that is what this looks like vs. a light weathered stain that finds specific grains to allow more natural board color to come through vs. being a flat grey coverage board like this. I'd switch to Minwax for Weathered Oak and wish i didn't go away from it. I had to use a planer to remove the stain on about 50 boards. (see my review)

I’m planing to work on my deck, I’m sure I have a water pressure treat deck and the other half is red cedar. I believe this gunstock will match the red cedar color. Is these product the right choice for stain a pressure treat wood, and match colors?

Posée par: Pabs
It is a great product but I don't think that this is the correct product to use outdoors I used it to match hardwood flooring inside of my home great match... check to see if it says that it can be used for outdoors if so I would use .

I bought this product and applied on dresser, after 24 hours it is still sticky and not dry why/

Posée par: RAaa
Maybe poor ventilation? Maybe surface wasn't properly prepped? I used this on benches. Can't remember how long it took to dry but now we use them every day and they look beautiful.

What is drying time before next coat?

Posée par: jeeff31
It depends on whether you wiped off the excess or not. If you didn't, it may take a long time before it dries. If you did wipe off the excess and it is still not dry, maybe the environment where it is drying is not helping the piece dry faster. it may need some air flow, some heat.

Can this product be used on an exterior cedar deck? I know what the can says, I'm seeking a professional opinion. Every exterior deck product I've used does not stand up on the flat deck surface.

Posée par: dk506
Hi dk506, This Penetrating Wood Stain will not hold up to the outdoor elements, even if you topcoat with an exterior finish. We recommend trying our Varathane Premium Gel Stain. While it is listed as an interior product; if using outdoors, you can protect the stain with an exterior oil based finish.

Can I use this product to stain my wood floor and stairs? Any additional steps before and after I apply this product to wood floor?

Posée par: shelly
Hi Shelly, Yes, you can apply our Classic Penetrating Oil Based Wood Stain on wood floors and stairs. For unfinished wood; Begin sanding with #120 grit sandpaper and progress through #150, #180 and #220 grits. Before staining, remove all sanding dust using a rag dampened with mineral spirits, or vacuum. If a filler or putty is used, make sure that it does not contain wax and allow for enough time to dry thoroughly. Soft woods such as pine, fir and maple require a wood conditioner. Use Varathane Premium Wood Conditioner before sanding and staining. After application, you can top coat with either an oil based finish after 8 hours or a water based finish after 24 hours.

Can this be clear coated with varathane clear coat?

Posée par: buckstop57
I would always seal a stain on wood. As long as it isn’t water based or NGR you are good.
