Rated 5 de 5 de par Very impressive solder gun I have a solder iron and always thought I was just not very good at soldering ....Turns out my iron just never got hot enough to solder correctly..Since buying this gun I have soldered multiple wires(some pretty thick too) I made a few sets of jumper wires by soldering alligator clips to pieces of wire... Neat little trick I saw on youtube was to get a thick piece of wire(I stripped a piece of 10/3 electrical wire and used that) then wrap the wire once around a 3/8th socket...the sold alligator clips to each end of the wire...you end up with i nice little wire holder that really helps holding two pieces of wire together as you solder :) plus it also act as a heat sink and helps to not melt the plastic off the wire you are soldering :)

I bought this model to replace one I bought 30 years ago and got plenty of use out of it. Don't underestimate how much power you'll need. The last model I owned was a 150/230W model, and I was always using it on high for my applications. Indoors especially, the dual light allows you to see your work clearly. You'll get your money's worth with Weller. Home Depot got it shipped promptly too.

I had a lower wattage unit for ages (until it stopped working), and soldering was time-consuming and really difficult. Not anymore, this unit is ready in seconds and has the power needed to do a great job in seconds. I used it 4 times since purchased, and I really would recommend this. I soldered #8AWG cables to terminals. I wish I had bought this product earlier...

Great for soldering to large surfaces (2 sq in plus), especially copper where 100 or 140 watts will not create a good connection. A little heavy, but the power you need for speed and many soldering points from precision soldering to small motor contacts to soldering a large ground connection, this 200+ watt unit is versatile. If you are doing is small circuit boards with solder small solder points, it works, but obviously a smaller unit is the best choice, but for home and small business use, this gun fits all our needs.

Very reliable and know many who have had this soldering gun for decades. Excellent for soldering medium and heavy electrical connections as well as copper and tin crafts. Others just don't have the necessary heat capability.

The old one did work, however, it was a lower voltage one that took a while to heat up to do any wire soldering. This one heats up in a flash, gets the job done, and then, on to something else. I'd seriously recommend it to anyone who did any wiring soldering or other household jobs, where a torch was not required.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Weller 20/260 watt soldering gun review The soldering gun is easy to use and arrived when promised. If this model is anything like my previous Weller soldering gun (lasted 39 years), this product will meet all of my needs. The dual lights come in handy when soldering under the car or in dark recesses (just make sure to check that the bulbs are screwed in properly before starting to use the product).

Rated 3 de 5 de par Lights not connected inside and 2 more lights issues Special Buy = a bad lot. Many comments about the lights. Three things: 1. They screw in, and arrive LOOSE. Be sure you tighten them before you complain about them not working. Mine were about to fall out when I got it. 2. Even when I tightened the bulbs, they flickered badly. Decided to open the case and found that the connections to the bulbs were, ironically, not soldered! Easy fix. 3. The lights are mounted on a free-floating clip and rattle in the case when you move it. There's no way to secure them as they are in a confined but high heat area. So they will just have t rattle. Yes, these are apparently seconds, likely on special because they failed QC. But mine is fine now, repaired with my failing similar but 50 year old Weller soldering iron. I expect the new one will last now.

Is this good for soldering water pipe?

Is this good for soldering water pipe?
Posée par: Steve
No. These units do not have enough wattage to sweat copper tubing. For that, I would recommend a small butane torch as a minimum. Otherwise you would run a high risk of having a cold solder joint and a high risk of failure.

can this be used to sauder 1/2 brass and varies metals up to an inch

I'm a junk artist and want to work with metal
Posée par: TJ
No. For that you need a plumber's touch. This tool is for heavy electrical wiring terminals not plumbing hardware.

Will the Weller D550 solder 6 awg wire terminals and splices ?
Posée par: Paule
I haven't specifically soldered 6 AWG, but I have soldered similarly sized long metal tube with no trouble. I believe this solder gun could handle it.
