Rated 5 de 5 de par Saved my back I've been making do with my regular shovel for way too long. After a particularly heavy snowfall, the road plow came by and walled me in with about 3 feet of solid snow. I had to borrow my neighbours sleigh shovel and my eyes were OPENED. Ran to CT to get my own the next day. Now shovelling takes half the time and no back-breaking throwing required. This is a must have for Canadian winters.

Rated 5 de 5 de par 5 stars Great shovel. Works well especially after a big snow. So far has prevented me from buying a snow blower

Rated 5 de 5 de par Best "manual" snow mover I have ever used. This scoop is the best way to move snow, especially when moving deep snow in locations where a snowblower is not practical. You can push/slide scooped snow to an ideal snow pile location (as opposed to throwing it over and over by means of a regular shovel).

Rated 5 de 5 de par it's like a manually operated snow blower I just love this thing!!! I just shoveled 6 inches of snow off of my driveway, and all of the sidewalks for one block on either side of my house. One just.....walks. It is like a little snow-bulldozer. Super easy to dump the load, I can even move the snow up and over a pile with ease. NO LIFTING this is just amazing. My back can't tolerate lifting heavy shovel-loads of snow and with this guy, I don't have to! Best snow removal device ever invented.

Can this shovel be safely used on a shingled roof? I ask this because I see a wrap around edge. Really in need of quick snow removal for my roof. My sno joe, although it gets to the peak of the roof, I'm in need something that can cover more real estate much quicker. Appreciate any input.
Posée par: bettyboop
I would not recommend it for that use. I have an almost flat porch roof and tried a similar item. No matter how careful I was, I still scraped some shingles. Shortly afterwards, the next summer, the roof started leaking when it rains hard.

Approximately how much would this sleigh shovel weigh when completely filled with snow? Thank you.

Approximately how much would this sleigh shovel weigh when completely filled with snow? Thank you.
Posée par: Doug
The weight of the Garant Snow Sleigh Shovel when it is completely filled with snow depends on the moisture content of the snow which is highly variable; if the snow is of a snow powder consistency it is fairly light as little as ten pounds but if it is filled with rain water then it can be quite heavy as much as fifty pounds. Now what I do is just take smaller chunks and bites of rain water moisture laden snow in more manageable smaller 15 pound bite size increments to get the same snow removal job done; and it only takes a couple more minutes longer to do it that way but much less physically stress free; since I can slide even the wet snow filled snow sleigh filled snow scoop very easy to dump even long distances away. I have even considered getting two snow sleigh snow shovels in order to get them filled up at the same time; so that I can pull them in parallel so that I can then dump two snow sleigh shovel volumes worth at the same time therefore doubling my effective snow sleigh shoveling snow removal capabilities; which would cut my snow removal task time to completion also in half.

Confused which type of snow pusher to purchase to clear the sidewalk and dump the snow onto the curbside. Is this shovel ideal for this need? Any tips or recommendations?
Posée par: HomeDepotShopper
This snow scoop works well on a sidewalk when the snow is more than 3 inches deep. Once I slide the sleigh to where I want to dump the snow, I pull back quickly to unload.

Female here wondering what folks use in addition to this shovel to try to shovel the hard, impacted icy snow piles blocking driveways that the City leaves when they clear the streets. Do you recommend using ice melt and chipping with ice picks first to soften things up? Any effective ice melts or product recommendations to use with this shovel for those snow piles would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Posée par: HomeDepotShopper
Breaking up those impacted piles with a small steel shovel and then using the sleigh shovel to transport the snow works best for me!

Does this scoop require any bolts to hold handle in place

Does this scoop require any bolts to hold handle in place
Posée par: Patty
Yes; it simply has plastic snaps that lock into place that allow it to be adjustable length, now I keep mine on the longish side so that it garners more length to be able to get more angular leverage to fulcrum off the ground even with snow loaded so that this is quite a bit more snow removal ergonomically efficient on a actual snow removal efficiency standpoint; one can also attach a second snow sleigh shovel also as well so that the total combined snow removal width is widened from twenty four inches to a total of fourty eigh inches width; that has got to one of the widest width snow sleigh removal shovels that one can potentially create for oneself; now simply connect two snow sleigh shovels together in parallel side by side by connecting the two handles that project at a forty five degree angle via two foot half inch diameter section of wooden dowel rod along with two half inch to one inch worm drive adjustable hose clamps; simply screw the adjusted tight enough to not allow any slippage; and then simply use another three foot half inch diameter wooden dowel rod section attached to the indented cureved in part of each of the snow sleigh shovels; so that they are connected and braced together to offer stability when both of them are connected and pushed forward together also as well; now one can then potentially move up to forty eight inch width swath of snow with a single snow removal pass at a time; which is an incredible boom to snow removal efficiency indeed; try it and one will be thanking me later trust me; it only take six half inch to one inch hose clamps and one four foot section of half inch wooden toweling to be used as indicated above; now one will be able to cut down ones snow removal time by literally one half quite easily; cost wise it costs two Garant 24 inch sleigh shovels and six half inch worm style hose clamps and one forty eight inch section to be cut down for a three foot section for the push bar indented curved handle grip and the remaining wooden dowel section used to assist in clamping the snow sleigh shovels side by side in order so that they are fastened side by side in parallel with each other.

For sidewalk snow clearance, any tips on how to maneuver this to dump the snow sideways onto the curb? I'm a senior female with a bad back and am hoping to get some tips on how to twist and turn this off from the sidewalk and dump the snow onto the curb, without injuring my back. Any tips and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Posée par: HomeDepotShopper
Don't twist your back. Lean into the handle pushing more into one side, causing the snow scoop to spin. Then direct to where you want and lift the handle to dump the snow. Just don't collect too much snow in the scoop. Another method I use is to load the scoop with snow, then drag it backwards like a sled on snow to an area to dump. Spin it and then tip the handle up to dump the snow.

Senior female with bad back. Seeking the best snow "pusher" or "sleigh" to push snow off sidewalk and dump onto the curbside and/or street. Is this ideal for my needs with my having a bad back? Very confused which type of snow pusher to purchase for my needs. Any tips or recommendations on how to dump the snow onto the side of the sidewalk without hurting my back? This seems like a good item to try for my needs but am hoping for any recommendations from experienced users on what type of snow pusher or sleigh I should purchase with my bad back. Thanks so much and a safe winter to all.
Posée par: HomeDepotShopper
The thing works great for a short distance push, such as across a sidewalk width or two. Once it fills up it can be hard to dump when the snow is wet and heavy. I like mine, but I too have a bad back and shoulders. I sometimes have to take small "bites" to keep from over exerting, specially when the snow is wet or deep. When the snow fall is very deep and/or heavy, I just use my snow blower.

Once assembled can you detach the handle for storage?

Once assembled can you detach the handle for storage?
Posée par: Erik
The answer should be yes - but not really. Garant has gone to a cheap clip system in the poly shovel handle. You push the steel handle into the holes in the sleigh shovel until the clips engage. The problem is, the tolerances on the hole and the handle do not allow the handle to slide all the way in. I just jammed my handle in as far as I could get it and it stays on since, in use, you are pushing the sleigh forward and basically pushing the handle down into the hole -- it doesn't come out. Getting the handle out again is not a job you really want to do every time you use it. Maybe once a year for summer storage, but not with every snow. This is the story with the model #78051 they are selling here. The old model #16009 allowed you to remove the handle fairly easily.
