Rated 4 de 5 de par great stuff I used this stuff to prime old, grimey greasy kitchen cupboards. it was great and they ended up looking like new once I was finished.

Rated 5 de 5 de par This is one strong primer I needed to cover nicotine smell and hazards infused by previous tenants' smoking. It sure seems to cover the hazards, as well as hides concentrated wall colors nicely.... But the smell is overpowering!! It is advisable to prime a dwelling while empty. The smell is similar to the old oil-based paints (lacquer?). Paint thinner should be by your side at all times, as well, to wipe any drops quickly, to wash any smudge off your body, and keep your brushes from drying up. The primer dries up to a nice off-white matte finish. On colored surfaces, a bit of color is showing through after one layer of primer. It definitely needs a latex paint over. Nicely prepares the surface, though!

Rated 3 de 5 de par Stinky! I live in a 60 year old house and needed to cover old, dark paint. I wasn't sure what kind of paint it was (oil, or maybe even lead?). I bought this primer so that I could use latex paint. The primer worked well, but the smell was terrible and very strong! It almost made me sick. If you don't need a heavy-duty primer, I'd buy the odorless kind!

Rated 5 de 5 de par wonderful primer This primer sticks to anything and you cannot scratch it off. More durable than anything Ive ever used. The only thing is one can doesnt go very far so it is more costly. It also is excellent at stain coverage and bleed through.

Previous shake 15 years old was painted with Benjamin Moore arbor coat, but no primer. It is probably the best exterior paint you can buy. However it's still peeling because of no primer. Also outdoors you want to use an oil base primer to achieve penetration into the wood. Use this primer and a quality top coat to achieve the best, longest lasting results possible. Please whatever you do don't paint your decking. It will never last. Oil stains and primers will always remain king outdoors.

Rated 2 de 5 de par Barely covers I needed to prime a 28 x 25" maple cabinet door (one side). I followed all the directions exactly and one can barely covered. Time will tell if it created a good base for the finish coat but be aware that it will take numerous cans to do any more that 4 sq ft.

Can you use this aerosol can of primer on oak kitchen cabinets without any other primer and then paint with top coat only for professional use ?

Posée par: Gincourt
Great question! Rust-Oleum Zinsser Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer Spray is great for bare oak cabinets. It will need to be topcoated with an opaque coating to ensure full longevity and durability. It can be topcoated with either oil or water-based paints. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Can this product be used to paint rubber armrests on a chair?
Posée par: Joe
Probably. Zinesser Cover Primer is a "bond coat". That means that it will adhere to most surfaces, with excellent adhesion.

I sprayed two coats of Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer on a particle board filing cabinet, and I'm ready to paint, but the primer left a powdery finish, so I'm afraid to proceed. Nothing on the can mentions sanding after the primer cures, but I feel like I should lightly buff off the powdery residue, unless that texture is needed for adherence? Please advise.
Posée par: AbbeyLately
Ge nerally sanding the spray primer before painting is a good idea. This will smooth the rough texture and provide a smooth surface to apply you paint to.

Can this be used in a electric paint sprayer? How many sq. ft. does it cover per gallon?

Posée par: Jayd
Hi Jayd, Our Cover Stain primer can be sprayed with an electric paint sprayer. You will have to refer to the manufacturer's instructions when using your spray equipment. One gallon covers 400 sq. ft. on smooth, painted, non-porous surfaces and 300 sq. ft. per gallon on rough, unpainted, porous surfaces. Application losses will vary according to the porosity of the substrate and the method of application and should be taken into account when estimating the quantity if product needed.
