Rated 1 de 5 de par I prepped the smooth painted ( not foil or laminate)... I prepped the smooth painted ( not foil or laminate) surface of some new out of the box, unassembled Swedish MDF furniture with 230 grit sanding per “Norm” to dull it first before applying 2 coats of primer, even though this is supposedly not required with this primer. The subsequent coats of paint and thinly applied oil based polyurethane finish were permitted to dry between coats for extended periods of time . For example, 2 days drying before applying the first thin coat of paint over the primer. 24 hours between additional thin coats of paint. Several days between each of 2 coats of satin oil based polyurethane. One week after the second coat of polyurethane, the surfaces are now dry and warm to the touch. Last night I inadvertently bumped one of the primed, painted, and polyurethaned panels while moving it and found that the primer did not hold. A light scuff easily peeled all finish layers as one fused peel layer down to the original surface. So, the various enthusiastic recommendations online that indicate this primer is worth the cost due to its exceptional adhering qualities were not reliable in my experience. The fact that I spent so much time first locating this specific primer due to these expectations, then, allowed overly ample dry times on each subsequent step to assure success of the project, all of which depended on the primer performing as advertised, makes the failure of the product worse. The time, effort and the additional expense for materials as well as the purchase of the furniture all depended on the primer working as promised. But, so far, no.

Is this primer good for bonding to tile floor before painting?

Posée par: Sarah88
Hi Sarah88, Our Zinsser BIN can be applied to a tiled floor before painting. However, it needs to cure hard (7-21 days, depending on temperature and humidity) before topcoating with paint. As well, we do not recommend this primer in bathrooms or areas with a lot of humidity as it does not hold up well to moisture.

I've install new R2i Millwork PVC wainscot panels and moldings, and is pre-finished (no need to paint). I would like it to match the same "white" as the rest of the room. Will this primer adhere to PVC plastic?

Posée par: renovator
Hi Renovator, For PVC plastic, our Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 is highly recommended.

Can I use this primer for metal sliding doors?

Posée par: Sylbarlow
Hi Sylbarlow, Our Zinnser BIN can be applied to metal surfaces as long as the sliding door is inside. Our BIN primer does not hold up well to moisture buildup.

Is this paint oil base?  It says shellac and I’m not familiar with that name.  Just need to know if I need varsol to clean brushes and rollers.

Posée par: Sylbarlow
Hi Sylbarlow, You will need to wash your application tools in a solution of 1-part ammonia and 3-parts water immediately after use. If product has dried on your tools, soak tools overnight in a solution of equal parts ammonia and water and scrub clean with a stiff brush.

Is this primer suitable for laminate wood paneling in a living room and bedrooms?

Posée par: Christine
Hi Christine, Our Zinsser BIN Primer is suitable for laminate wood paneling in a living room and bedrooms. That being said, there is usually a coating on the laminate. We recommend a good cleaning with water and ammonia, a light scuff sand with 220-grit, and remove the sanding dust prior to painting. We hope this new information is helpful.

Will BIN cover shella civered brass? It was great on the shellac wall paneling in the basement. I have some brass tables I want to paint matte black. These things are 30 years old but in great shape.

Posée par: Lainie
Yes, BIN can be applied to clean, dry brass. Zinsser Cover Stain can also be used.

Can I use this product to prime (followed by paint) bathroom laminate counter and cabinets? ( trying to avoid sanding process!)

Posée par: FR09
Zinsser BIN is sensitive to moisture and may crack in humid environments like bathrooms. Zinsser Bulls-Eye 123, or Zinsser Cover Stain would make excellent choices.
