How is The Home Depot Canada managing the penny phase-out?

When the federal government announced it was phasing out the penny in 2012, The Home Depot carefully reviewed the requirements to make sure it would continue to meet the needs of its customers. While the penny will retain its value indefinitely, beginning February 4, 2013, pennies will no longer be circulated. The Home Depot Canada is committed to doing the right thing, every day. As of February 4, 2013, when our customers use cash to pay for an item we will always round down to the nearest nickel. When applying cash returns, we will always round up to the nearest nickel. Non-cash payments such as debit or credit cards will continue to be settled to the cent.
