Am replacing 32 the old single pin units in my shop with these T8 units using a LED replacement bulb, I got my first couple from Grainger for $110 each, then saw these SAME MODEL units for $40, great units, saving on utility costs, highly recommend these. Easy to install.

How many fixtures do I need for a 30x48ft industrial shop?

The height of the shop is 19ft.
Posée par: Anonyme
I could just answer this question, but you'd likely think I've slipped a cog. So, let's walk through the math together so you can see where I'm coming from. Let's start with some basics: a lamp's light output is expressed in units of 'lumens,' each lumen being a measure of the quantity of light produced by that lamp in much the same way that a pound is a unit of measure of weight. A 4' T8 fluorescent lamp typically produces around 2800 lumens. The next concept to consider is the concept of lighting levels, expressed in units of 'footcandles' where one footcandle is equivalent to one lumen distributed uniformly over an area of 1 square foot. Generally, a workshop should be illuminated to a level of 100 footcandles. So, with your 1440 square foot shop, you'll need 144,000 lumens. However, even knowing this you're still not done. The reality is that not all of that light actually reaches your work surface due to internal losses within the fixture and because of absorption by walls, ceiling, floors and the contents of the space being illuminated. As well, over time, a ballast's output falls below its rated level, a lamp's output decreases and lamps and fixtures become dirty. The typical method for dealing with these practical losses is to double the calculated illumination level, which would see your requirment move up to 288,000 lumens. Each 4' T8 producing 2800 lumens would see you requiring ~102 lamps. If the lamp you're considering is the one on this page - the Lithonia 96" T8 Double Strip Tandem Light (Model #TC2321201/4GESB), you'd need 26 of them for your shop, evenly distributed across the area of your roof.

how many lights can be put on a15 amp switch

Posée par: Anonyme
The amount of lights that you can put on a 15 amp switch will depend on the amount of amps for each fixture. On the UL label you will see how many amps the fixture will draw and then divide that by 12 as you only want to use about 80% of the 15 amps. I hope this helps.

Can this light be wired so that each pair of lamps is controlled by a different switch?

Can this fixture be hooked up so that it works like seperate 48 inch fixtures? That is can this fixture be hooked up to two separate switches so that 1 switch will turn 1 pair of the lights on and off and another swictch will turn the other pair of lights on and off?
Posée par: Brumble
To be able to have them work as separate fixtures you will have to purchase another ballast. I hope this helps.
