I read a few reviews before returning the item which basically said the materials Bora uses will flex and become parallel when they are clamped tight. This means you are not putting even force on your work.

The passive lock design is a nice feature that allows you to square up the clamp...then just twist the screw portion to tighten everything up. The face of the clampis wide and non-marring with a nice rubber grip pad. I recently used these clamps to make a picture frame and keep everything square as the glue dried. The clamps are easy to disengage as well. I absolutely love these and I highly recommend for the professional or DIY enthusiast [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

It comes in a package of 2 and has a 3 1/2” deep throat. You can configure the jaws so the clamps become spreaders—cool feature. The only documentation that accompanies the clamps is a tag (see Photo 1). When you first examine the clamps, you’ll immediately notice that the jaws are NOT parallel. This is not a defect (I also have a pair of 12” clamps and they exhibit the same behavior). I contacted Bora to see what they’d say about this, and they pointed out that what’s critical is what happens under load. They sent me a set of photos showing the out-of-parallel condition of the jaws when not under pressure, and the changes they undergo when under load. They match what I discovered (all enclosed photos are mine, not theirs). Photo 2 shows the jaws just touching the glue-up—they’re obviously not parallel. Photo 3 shows the jaws under normal clamping pressure. Note how the jaws become parallel and apply even pressure to the glue-up. I performed several actual glue-ups and they all turned out fine. These clamps have a real nice feel to them—if anything, they’re on the heavy side, but I think that’s a good thing. They felt like they had more than enough clamping pressure. They also have a couple of nice features, such as a tail stand (see Photo 4) that helps keep the clamp steady on your work bench. Not so obvious, is a V-groove in the jaw when you remove the plastic cover (see Photo 5) for grabbing pointed or round objects. These clamps are true 24” clamps; they have an overall length of 32 1/4 inches. They will actually hold something a little wider than 24 inches. Overall, I’d say they are great clamps. Now, I got a pair of the 40" and the 24" and I have to be upfront and tell you this review is tainted by my overall impression of the four clamps; the 40" clamps, in particular, are terrible. Before these four, I had 22 bar clamps ranging in sizes from 12" to 50"; most of these clamps I've had for a dozen years or more. Some are more than 20 years old. They are produced by what I believe to be the #1 and #2 bar clamp manufacturers in the world [can I say Jet and Bessey?]. Also, I have to tell you I build furniture; I use a lot of clamps in building frames and carcasses; a typical glue-up will involve 8-to-12 clamps. So, I am no newbie to clamps. What does a woodworker look for in bar clamps? For start, rigid, straight, and robust [corrosion-resistant and glue resistant] I-beams ... these clamps lack this basic. So, for me ... and I assume for any woodworker ... there's no sense in going further. But you may want to know that the jaw cases are two pieces rather than one and that the 'clutch' is merely a piece of wire; the grips are decent to handle. Parallel clamp {Set of 2} Is going to be so handy when I start back with my woodworking. They are pretty heavy and will hold anything I need to glue. Last year I had made a cutting board and I had a lighter set of clamps and they didn't"t hold my wood together very good. I am going to have to remake the cutting board. I do so appreciate you letting me try these. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

They are easily adjustable for length by pushing in and sliding the jaw. Tension is applied by the hand clamps. What I liked about these clamps is the size of the jaw and the construction, They will apply even pressure without marring the material. They have a smooth surface that is flat across its length enabling you to clamp larger areas. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I am of the opinion that I can never have enough clamps. Just like I can never have enough ice cream and chocolate. I have had many types of clamps but until recently I have not had a set of parallel clamps like these. I have tried to make do with bar clamps and pipe clamps. But a good set of parallel clamps eluded me. I think the relative high cost kept me away. That was a mistake. These make the job so much easier and efficient. I do not need as many clamps and the big jaws and throat depth keep the work solidly in place. There is no torqueing or twisting. The heads have large screws that go all the way through, which gives the feeling that the heads will never separate. The jaws move together easily by just lifting up on the screw handle and moving it towards the opposite side. I have posted a photo of an end grain cutting board I am making and you will be able to see it clamped. Normally, when using my pipe clamps I have to put quite a few side by side in order to be sure that everything is clamped properly. As you can see in the photo I did not have to do that. Just two clamps and then I use bar clamps to hold the side boards in place which are for alignment only. The Bora clamps are tight and gave me lots of glue squez which is what I want. And there is no bowing of the pieces. The price of the clamp is more than one of the main competitors. However, it feels like the quality is a little better than that competitor. I have both brands so can compare. I think it would be convenient if Bora would provide movable plastic spacers for the bar, in order to hold jobs up off the aluminum. That would help keep glue away and minimize clean up. All in all a quality product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
