Create a Planter Box

This free-standing planter box is made in part from FSC plywood, and the white paint doesn't off-gas volatile organic compounds (VOCs), so the air in your home stays free of pollutants.

  1. Cut 1/2 plywood as follows:

  4. Glue
  5. Drill pilot holes,

  2. Screw a brace
  3. Screw braces on each leg
  4. Fill
  5. Sand
  6. Prime

Cut 1/2 plywood as follows:

Cut 1/2 plywood as follows:

two 28" x 8" for sides; one 27" x 8" for bottom; two 8" x 8" for end caps.

Cut the 1x2x8s as follows:

four 30" long for legs (mitred at one end); four 9" long for braces; two 10-1/4" long (mitred at both ends); one 21" long for bottom brace.

Drill pilot holes

along 3 edges of the side pieces: 2 pilot holes on the short edge, 4 on the long edge and 2 along one edge of the end caps.

and screw the end caps onto the bottom piece. Glue and screw the sides to the joined pieces.

then glue and screw the handles to the legs.

Attach the legs

Attach the legs

to the planter box 2" from the end, using glue and screws. Leave a 2" space between bottom of handles and box.

Screw a brace

onto each leg under the planter box.

5" from the bottom. Drill pilot holes, then glue and screw the bottom cross brace between the two lower braces using 2-1/2" screws.

all the screw holes with wood filler.

Sand

the entire planter box.

Prime

then paint.
