- Care Guide: To keep your cut Christmas tree fresh and safe, make a fresh straight cut by removing about ½ inch from the trunk base before placing it in a stand. This reopens sap-sealed pores so the tree can absorb water. Keep the trunk submerged in at least 1 gallon of plain, room-temperature water and place it away from heat sources, fireplaces, vents, radiators, and direct sunlight to prevent drying. Check water levels daily to ensure your tree stays hydrated.
