Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ain't no hammer for soft men 17 oz of high velocity, high octane, heavy hitting, high carbon steel, hardened to the iron will of your gravel-eating grandad; with a polished face as flat as your foreman's personality and a straight-grained hickory handle designed for nothing but the toughest blue-collar bear paws - just like yours. Stone-cold forks on the hind-side for when your apprentice misses a nail drive, tacky grip for the wet days when the sun don't shine but the bills still need paid. No cheap rubber overmoulding to keep your mitts pretty - this unit is built for the mud, sweat, and stone cold reality of the daily grind. This hammer takes no days off; so when you show up ready to make it happen keep this badboy hanging heavy on your hip. Sometimes in life you take the road less travelled - and that's just fine for poetry night at the coffee house. But when you need to rise and grind another thousand nails to get you to payday, this is the first and last hammer you're ever gonna need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nicely done DeWalt I'm very happy with this hammer. I didn't want to shell out for a hammer thrice the cost of this one, but I was keen on finding something similar. It's basically the poor man's dagger - handle is 18 inches, head weight is low- 17oz, and the balance is excellent. Swing feels fast and controlled. The texturized grip feels kind of like matte plastidip, which comes off if you prefer, but I like it. The head feels clearcoated so it won't rust as easily. I don't normally use a smooth face, so I might grind a subtle grid into it if I'm really bending a lot of nails. My only grievance: Of the 6 hammers on the shelf, only one - the one I bought - had a proper grain. The other's were mostly okay, and probably useable, but I'm not sure I would have bought this hammer otherwise. Maybe I'm just picky with wood handles, but it seems to me if you want to sell wooden handled hammers in an age of titanium and fiberglass, then you should know your clientele enough to make sure the handles are excellent. DeWalt nailed the design; just make sure your grain is going the right way.
