Rated 5 out of 5 by from [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Anyone who makes their own network cables will appreciate the Klein Tools Pass-Thru Modular Data Plug Cat6 connectors with their wire pass through feature. I found it convenient to have the color coded wires pass through the connector to be sure you have them in the correct positions. Once you have purchased the pass through crimping tool and a spool of Cat6 cable you will never have to purchase pre-made cables again. I like the idea that all your cables will be the correct length. The Klein Tools Pass Through Crimper VDV226-110 is sold at Home Depot. The difference in a Cat6 connector is the wiring is closer to the connector pins than in a Cat5e connector.

Pass thru style connectors are my preference for field-terminating devices as it's much easier to check your work before crimping. I use the Klein Tools VDV226-110 ratcheting modular pass-thru crimper on these but any crimper designed for pass-thru connectors (crimp and cut excess cable) will do the job. I run a cable verifier on my work before using the cable and have so far had no issues with these connectors, overall would rate the quality of these as excellent. If I'm finishing up a quick job I'll grab a small pack of these but for the best bang for your buck, I would recommend the larger quantity packs when it makes sense.

I liked the pass through design of these connectors and used two to replace the connectors on a 100 foot cable with broken clips. I was very disappointed to find they did not fit into my laptop or router. I had to use a file to reduce the width of the clip section before they would seat properly. They are still a very tight fit, but at least now they connect. I guess I should have checked the fit first before attaching them to the cable. If I had I could have returned them for another brand. Never ran into this problem before, but I have only repaired a few cables at home over the years.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These connectors are very easy to use. You don't need a special crimper if you are only doing a few connectors. You can easily trim the wire with a sharp knife. The pass thru design allows you to maintain the wire twist for lower loss and also allows you to double check the wire order before you crimp. Overall an easy to use product. The only downside is needing a special crimper if you plan to make a lot of connections.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These connectors are great. I used all 10 making patch cables and had 100% success rate on the finished cables. The pass thru seems like a small thing but it really helped me. Over the last 30 years I have made my share of cables. It was always hard to tell if I had all 8 ends seated all the way into the connector and almost impossible to see if any of the wires had switched places when inserted. The pass thru eliminates this concern. You get instant feedback. The process went a bit faster as well. I didn't have to spend trimming the ends flat or being concerned with the overall length. Leave them long, slide them thru, crimp and cut of excess.

If you are working with 24AWG CAT6a, they are probably fine. If you are working with 23AWG CAT6a, it is very difficult to use these. Look for a jack with staggered holes that specifically states 23AWG.

These pass through plugs and the related multi tool were perfect for me to do my home networking job. After watching a few YouTube videos and practicing, I was able to do one plug in about 3-4 minutes. You still have to develop the “skill” of sorting the wires and threading them through the end of the plug, but what the pass through plugs do is eliminate the need to trim and thread precisely. You are guaranteed to get a good connection, and the jacket will be able to be fully inserted into the plug and crimped into place. All of my connections are working great.

Those crimpers are not designed for pass-thru connectors but in a pinch you could use them as long as you trim the excess wire flush first. Just keep in mind the cabling must be cut flush to ensure a proper connection to the data port.

What's the maximum cable diameter accepted by these connectors? I have some direct burial CAT6 cable with a 7.1mm diameter - will it fit?

Klein Tools Cat. No. VDV826-729 are designed to be compatible with most CAT6 cables and have a max cable opening of 9.6mm x 5.65mm.
