Installation went ok, could have been better. Nowhere in the instructions does it say the fan assembly mounts to the mounting rails from below. It just says mount fan to rails. It IS obvious once you realize it, and I felt the commensurate level of stupid, but other than that it all went smoothly. Also I would have liked the perforated plastic enclosure screen to have been a bit wider in all directions, as it just barely covers the hole. It runs very quiet, and it does seem to move more air than my previous 80cfm noisy unit. I'd buy another one.

This is the third one of these fans I've installed in our bathrooms ceiling and they really are easy to install. Their Easy Flex bracket makes installation a lot simpler than other brands. I like that my mirrors no longer fog up and it gives me much confidence that my light fixtures will no longer rust out due to excessive moisture , which has happened before. I hate that contractors put cheap noisy fans in new homes that are mostly ineffective. If you want a bathroom fan that actually works the way they should, you pretty much have to install upgrades like this one. This fan is super quiet, you can actually here a whisper above the almost soundless whir of this fan. Highly recommend !

Replaced two previous bathroom fans of same rating CFM including homewerks bluetooth fan. Both fans were useless in a small bathroom even though the ratings exceeded the CFM for the space. This panasonic is a beast. Was a little tricky to install compare to the other two. I did had to make a bigger hole which I knew about because I couldn't find an exact match for current hole. This fan sucks air and it's very quiet. It also has a beefier cover grill. There is barely any fogging of the mirror after a 30 minute shower with hot water. Thumbs up to Panasonic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing fan—but not all that easy to install Whenever I do any electrical installation, the first yeehaw is that when power is applied, it works. And it did. The second thing is that when a manufacturer claims that a vent fan is quiet, it is quiet. And this fan is—set on the higher speed, it’s much quieter than any other fan I’ve ever had. The third thing is that when the manufacturer claims that it will exhaust the humid air in a relatively largish bathroom (9x7) during and after a shower, it will do that. And this fan definitely does it. I can now step out of the shower and immediately use the mirror—hmmm, maybe that’s not such a good thing! So the fan is definitely a 5 star. But the instructions for installing this fan are really miserable! If I had not watched a few YouTube videos and wasn’t already relatively handy, it wouldn’t have been possible. Of course, that I was doing an entirely new installation and doing it completely from inside the bathroom (except for installing the vent cap on the roof) without ever going into the attic made it more difficult. It was an 8 hour chore! If I had to rate only the instructions, it would be a 1 star. Why did I do it that way? First, I’d had another 10” of insulation blown into my attic and didn’t want to disturb it more than necessary. Second, where the fan is installed, the roof is relatively low, so it would have been very difficult, lying on my belly to string wires and the exhaust vent tubing. And third, at my age (almost 77), crawling around in an attic is one of my least favorite things to do. While time consuming, it was better to do everything from below except for the roof work.

It is larger than the builder-installed unit, so I had to remove a superfluous structural item, saw-cut the ceiling, install an electrical junction box to extend the wiring, and up-size the exhaust duct from 3-inch to 4-inch (to get the higher air flow). The bracket provided with the fan was relatively easy to install and was secure - just don't expect it to fit perfectly, as the final cover makes up for irregularities. This was one of my better purchases for home improvement, despite the added work - the old fan barely moved enough air to clear the room in 30 minutes, now done in 10 min.

I have our selector switch set on 110 CFM as our bathroom is 99sq ft. (9×11) and no windows. I installed a new 4" duct and louver when I installed this fan and this fan leaves minimal steam on our mirror. Thinking about setting it back to 80 CFM in the winter. I also installed a 60 minute countdown timer as well. Great fan and doesn't break the bank.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Unit Found the installation to go smoothly once I understood the instructions. I had to study the instructions for awhile to see how it is installed. I like to know what I am doing and don’t like to waste time so I studied the installation the night before. I also was going to be in 100 degree attack and in a crawl space so the last thing I want to do is read instructions. Once you understand how the pieces go together, it is very easy. I was replacing a 20 year old fan so it was considered a retro-fit by Panasonic. Use the ceiling cutout template since it creates a clean cut in your ceiling. After your brackets are installed, you must first remove the adapter from the fan box (There is one machine screw that connects it, so don't lose it). Hook your wires up and attach exhaust duct to adapter then finally install the adapter to brackets with the flange showing over your ceiling. This is the key to the entire process. The fan box then slides back into adapter. A total of 5 screws hold the entire unit in place. The fan is extremely quiet and powerful. I like the fact that you have two CFM settings and that the unit can be replaced or serviced from the ground floor. Remove plug connector and 3 screws and fan box slides out. Remove the two screws from the adapter and you can service or inspect the duct and your wiring connections if you need to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet fan with an easy install. Pulling out my 30 year old fan was the hardest part. If you have parallel joists the metal bracket makes mounting this trivial. I had to remove a 2x4 support for the old fan - but then things went quickly. This is a DEEP fan. I couldn't find the "remodel" version (which isn't as deep) and bought this one not realizing how deep it was - about the same as the old one I pulled out. It's fairly quiet - it says 0.3 sones but seems only a bit quieter than the 0.9 sone rated Broan I removed. It was a perfect fit for the existing drywall hole. With my old fan I'd tried 3" flex ducting and that was much noisier than the solid 4" I put in an re-used for this fan.

Hello wait, There is no light function included with this particular fan. But in general yes. Most bath fans with a light can be wired to work independently. I hope this helps. Cheers, Chris

Can you run without duct?

Asked by: Mally
Unsure what your trying to ask but it needs somewhere for the moist air to go from the bath room so it either needs duct to the out side vent or hooked up directly to an outside vent. It can not vent directly into the attic or it will cause mold to grow.
