Rated 2 out of 5 by from Had big hard chunks in the bags I bought several bags to level the floor in my basement. Half of the bags had hard chunks in it ranging in size from a piece of corn up to marble-sized. Before I mixed it I would have to reach in the bucket and try and smash up all the big chunks that I could. The bags that did not have any chunks in it worked very well and was very easy to use.

I used Top n' Bond to skim coat my cold room walls after viewing You Tube videos on how to do it. Once I had the water to powder ratio for my application it was looks great, ease and simple to use.

Looking to redo mortar around the flue tiles, sealing the joint between the flue tiles and concrete chimney cap. Would this product be a good choice?

you could however... .. there are 2 alternate products to consider. . SAKRETE mason-craft is a pre-blended, pre-packaged, Type O Mortar, specifically designed for use in repointing and non-load-bearing wall applications. This mortar is a blend of Portland cement, Type S hydrated lime, masonry sand and other carefully selected components. SAKRETE mason-craft conforms to ASTM C 270 for Type O Mortar, with the addition of water. It is grey in colour, but can also be blended with a variety of colouring agents. Would this product work to level off 1/4” low spots  on a outdoor concrete spa pad?  Will it crack under the filled weight of the hot tub and will it resist winter freeze/thaw cycles?  Thank you.

It will do the levelling and stand up to the weight. I put 2” styrofoam sm under my hot tub when I installed it. It helps to distribute the weight and is a good insulator.....it has been there for 15 years and no issues. Hope this helps.

Can this product be tinted during mixing, or would it be better to just paint afterwards? I’m looking for a dark finish in my garage.

Yes SAKRETE top’n bond can be tinted using KING Colorant. KING Colourant is a high quality, synthetic mineral oxide powder additive that adds a creative colour touch to any cement project. KING Colourant pigment is designed for the Do-It-Yourself market, to easily colour packaged cement mixes, enhancing the appearance of the finished project. FEATURES & BENEFITS • Easy to mix in • Permanent • Concentrated formula USES For adding a creative colour to SAKRETE Concrete Mix, SAKRETE Sand Mix, SAKRETE Mortar Mix, stucco, patio tiles, decorative coatings and other cement-based projects. NEVER wet the tools during use. The use of water will result in discoloration and may even damage the surface of the concrete. CURING Follow the packaged concrete curing instructions as directed by the manufacturer. Caution: NEVER fog the surface of the coloured concrete with water while curing. Finishing: It is recommended, especially for air-entrained concrete (e.g. SAKRETE PSI 6000), to use a wood, magnesium or aluminum float trowel for a smooth surface. How thick do I apply it to resurface my sidewalk?

Forms a bond that is 8 to 10 times stronger than that of regular cement mix. Use for concrete repairs from a feather-edge up to 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) thick. Open to light foot traffic in 12 to 24 hours, and heavy traffic after 48 hours. Deep repairs, exceeding 1/2 inch (1.25 cm): After leveling off the initial layer at 1/2 inch (1.25 cm), rough-up the surface with a coarse broom and allow to harden for 24 hours. Repeat the process until the desired thickness is reached. Surface Preparation: Surfaces to be repaired must be structurally sound and clean. Remove all delaminated or unsound concrete by chipping with a hammer and chisel, or by using a stiff wire brush. Clean the area to be repaired with potable water, leaving the concrete saturated but free of standing water. Some very porous concretes may require several applications of water to ensure complete saturation. Mixing: Empty contents into mixing container. Add approximately 140 mL (4.75 oz) of clean water per 1 KG (2.2 lb) or enough to achieve a workable mix. Mix only the amount that can be used in 30 minutes. Avoid a soupy mix. Excess water reduces strength and durability and can cause cracking. In cold weather, use warm water to accelerate the set. In hot weather, use cold water to slow the set. NOTE: Concrete bonding agents are not recommended with SAKRETE top’n bond. Placing: Shallow repairs up to 1/2 inch (1.25 cm): After mixing, trowel in a thin layer to the prepared dampened surface, forcing mix into the pores of the old concrete. Then, immediately spread more material to the required thickness, and level off. Deep repairs, exceeding 1/2 inch (1.25 cm): After leveling off the initial layer at 1/2 inch (1.25 cm), rough-up the surface with a coarse broom and allow to harden for 24 hours. Repeat the process until the desired thickness is reached. Finishing: Level off the repair at the desired thickness and finish smooth with a dampened trowel. For a textured surface, use a broom or brush. CURING Curing means maintaining proper moisture and temperature. Because of high water retention properties, SAKRETE top’n bond requires no special curing under normal conditions. When exposed to high heat or direct, hot sunlight, cover the patched area with a plastic sheet for 24 hours. Do not wet the surface with water after troweling operation has been completed. Substrate temperatures should be maintained between 5 ºC and 30 ºC (40 ºF and 86 ºF) for at least 24 hours prior to and 48 hours after.
