Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good machine for small yards I had a heavy duty dethatching job, generating about 1.5 cu yds of material over 3000sq ft. The machine performed well in removing thatch, moss, creeping charlie stems, and the leaves from clover. The 4Ah batteries required four recharges. I did not find powering the unit to be the limiting factor, considering that I have two sets of 4Ah batteries. One of which comes with the unit. A more limiting factor is the frequent need to empty the catcher. To lengthen the time between emptying, I would pick up and tilt back the unit to move the material deeper into the catcher.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Does good work, however, electric is faulty The quality of work this product does is stellar, however the safety mechanism broke fairly quickly (I've had this product for 1 month total, used it on my own and in-laws yard). Now in order to use it I have to depress safety button and pull handle, and need to keep the safety button depressed the whole time for the electric to work. Phoned Ryobi and was told to return the product if it is having issues thus early on. If it was not for the safety button issue I think a 4 star rating would be appropriate.

Thatch just falls to the ground, unit is not powerful enough to throw thatch into the bag. Now the tines are wore down, trying to finds parts to replace it, is impossible, so I'm stuck with an expensive and useless machine. I do not recommend this item, looks good on paper, useless as a tool.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from yeah good luck using it past year 1 I bought this unit almost immediately when it came to market, love it, still do... but it just sits in the shed unable to be used and thus has earned it the title of the most expansive paperweight I've ever owned. Performs well, batteries last forever and the higher voltage of the two-battery series has it plow through anything... yet you think you could get replacement tines and aerators? Nope. Not carried in store, not found on THD's website still to date... parts list numbers taken to Ryobi parts either marks sold out or won't match... and their customer care refuses to email a response to how to replace these. so alas, 1.5 years of usage and now another summer gone by now and heading into year 2 of a non-operational unit that hangs on the wall smiling at its $450 exorbitant price tag (that now is 650???) that other suckers will buy not knowing, at least in Canada, they're a very expensive "use once" item...

Only 2 things that did not give it a 5 star....the bag doesn't really work that well for catching the dead grass you're pulling up and (2) if you have a bigger yard, the batteries don't last long enough to finish the yard. You have to stop and let them charge and they don't charge that quickly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from works fine until the tines need replacing replacement dethatching tines and aerator spikes are impossible to purchase making this a $600 paper weight of regret and anger. don't bother buying it until they start providing purchasable replacement parts for the consumable components. and no, they're good for a season or two depending on usage but regular wear wears them down quickly as expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome machine I LOVE this dethatcher/aerator! It does a phenomenal job lifting the thatch from the grass and aerating afterwards. I used to use a dethatching rake which was a lot of work and took hours. With this beauty, it took me an hour to do front and back. Two weeks later, my grass is lush and green and looks magnificent! I highly recommend this machine!

How long will the batteries last on one charge?

Our lawn now has LOTS of small (1/4”) stone/ gravel residue thrown during the winter by the snowblower. 1) Will this Ryobi machine pick up the small gravel/stones? 2) Will the Ryobi batteries from our leaf blower & grass trimmer power this dethatcher?

I would say no, it does not even do a good job of bagging the grass, the main reason why I bought it. It's great for dethatching, but the bagging aspect really needs some work. Hope this helps.

Do i understand correctly that it takes both batteries at the same time to run the machine? So the machine runs 20 minutes on two fully charged batteries. HOW LONG does it take to recharge the battery.
