SteelStik did a great job on repairing a leak on a low pressure hot water steel pipe. Make sure the joint is clean and dry. I sprayed the joint down with a solvent cleaner to be sure there was no oil or grease. The cure time is fairly fast so you need to work quickly. Nitrile gloves will keep your hands clean as you knead the two parts together. The epoxy will get quite warm when it's mixed and starting to cure. The consistency is like modeling clay so it needs a bit of pressure to force it into the joint. It will cure rock hard in a few minutes. So far, a month later, it's holding fine.

Cleaned surface thoroughly, prepared surface to accept JB product, and found it almost impossible to get the right amount of substance out of the stick without making a big mess, and getting it everywhere. I tried cutting it from the other end and ended up ruining a knife blade, because by the time I finished with application and other items needed addressed at the time, the JB had dried on the knife blade and was difficult to remove without grinding down the blade . I take part of the blame, but for easy applications and quick DIY projects for one time use, with no former exposure to the product, I cannot recommend it to anyone.

I have used SteelStik twice this year and it's saved me hundreds of dollars. I rebuilt my washing machine because the bearings were NG - in the process the outer tank had rust holes - the tank would have cost $300 - so I might as well have bought a new machine - SteelStik fixed it. The second time time I had a leak in a steel plumbing pipe that was hidden behind the kitchen sink cabinet - who knows how many hundreds of dollars it would have been to take the cabinet out and replace the pipe. Be careful when using it - it is like steel extremely hard to sand after it cures so don't pile it on and think you will shape it later.

When installing a replacement pump on my pressure washer I broke one of the three attachment legs when bolting the unit on to the motor (my error). I thought the pump was done, but I decided to give JB Weld a go. Reattached the leg using SteetStik. The break obviously occurred at the thinnest part of the leg and it still held. Just amazing!! The pressure washer is still going strong two years later. This is good stuff!!!

Some were good; some great, and others a sheer waste of time & money. One thing they've ALL held in common is that NONE OF 'EM behaved in quite the fashion the promoters lead me to believe beforehand. As such, I had no reason to think this J.B. Weld product, SteelStik, would perform any better. Nevertheless, I gave it a shot, thinking that if it put out at least half as well as promised, I'd be satisfied. Well, I was DOUBLE-satisfied because SteelStik delivered fully on every front - from the quick set and cure to the strength and durability - EVERY TIME! In the sixth photo, below, SteelStik joins three (3) separate lengths of piping together to form the inner-stem that keeps that heavy and valuable, 3' 2" lamp standing upright! In Photo #5, the entire upper portion joinings are fabricated in SteelStick! Photo #4 shows two (2) screws (and nuts) replaced by applications of SteelStik! In Photo # 3, the front portion of the right side of this necklace fastening was entirely broken off! I used SteelStik to re-fabricate the missing piece and attach it to the remaining half. The SteelStik fabrication was then sanded and gilded to look much like the rest - only a little better, I think! The next photographs depict projects underway wherein I have the utmost confidence in my J.B. Weld SteelStik: Photo #2 - J.B. Weld SteelStik will form the mounting upon which this carrying strap will be re-attached to this antique trunk. And finally, Photo #1 - J.B. Weld SteelStik will re-join all the pieces of this antique Victorian Garden Sundial & Gas Lamp! I know that people sometimes give positive reviews in exchange for compensation of one kind or another. This review is NOT one of those; I just think J.B. Weld SteelStik is One Totally Awesome Product that ACTUALLY DOES EVERYTHING IT PROMISES, and (clearly) I've come to confidently rely on it for everything from soup to nuts! If you are considering trying it, I'm sure you cannot go wrong by saying "yes" and being sure to closely follow the simple instructions for its use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked like a charm!! My wife had our ceiling fan on last night and one of the globes started moving and was hanging to one side a little. I grabbed a step ladder and went up to tighten the screw on the bolt that holds the globe in place and saw that the bolt had come un welded from the metal piece that the globe sits over. I went to my local Home Depot and bought a package of this JB Weld Steel Stik stuff and I used it to place the bolt back on metal piece and it dried rock hard in about 5 minutes. I then waited an extra 5 minutes and put the globe back on. Now when the fan is running the globe doesn't move at all and I even ran it on high. Now our over $200 fan looks like new again thanks to JB Weld...

Sometimes it is better to solder a metal joint rather than trying to glue. My application was to mend an antique clock hour hand. I tried kneading a small bead of the JB weld material a couple of times, once around the joint and then a another attempt with material between the joint. The material just did not adhere to the surface of the metal pieces.Once it begins to set, there is no molding it. I resorted to soldering, which ended up being my solution. I would give this product a lower rating; however, most likely this JB Weld product may have other applications that are more suitable than my project. I have been satisfied with other JB Weld glue products, so I just chalk this up to a learning experience.

Am I supposed to mix the gray and the black material? The instructions weren't specific. I ask this because the gray portion is not pliable, it is dry and crumbly and will not mix well with the black material.
Asked by: JRas
Mix both colors together until you have a uniform mix. I used it to strengthen the welds on my living room lamps. It was simple to use and it worked well. Use a disposable knife to cut the material and a disposal glove.

My air conditioner is leaking water from the pan where it has deteriorated. When I called in someone they used a product called liquid metal. Is this a similar product I can use to stop the leak in the metal pan?
Asked by: Bifkin
I believe this would be suitable for your task. It would almost certainly be my first choice of product to use if I were faced with the same or similar situation.

can this repair a hole in my wire screen on my storm door
Asked by: boo
It would be like using a blob of clay or silly putty to fill the hole, except that it would be a lot harder. May as well use a chainsaw to carve your Thanksgiving turkey and a hatchet for slicing the pumpkin pie. Weird choice for screen repair. Technically it would probably block up the hole, but bad choice. Better off with a screen patch which is cheap, less noticeable, and made for the purpose. Its also pretty easy to just buy a roll of screen and go around replacing any damaged or stretched out screens you have. That way its good as new.

I am hoping to use this product to repair a couple of cracks in a steel (old, heavy gauge) kitchen sink drain trap at my camp. The camp is located in the north and part of the "winterizing" process involves filling the drain trap with RV/Marine antifreeze. These products may contain ethyl alcohol, propylene glycol, glycerin and some type of corrosion inhibitor. Once the SteelStik has cured, are there any problems with reactivity?
Asked by: CampCat
No problems with reactivity, but I would consider our original 8265 2 part for this application. It will take a solid 24 hours t cure, but will adhere better.

Will this stick to a rusty drain pipe? Thanks for your help.
Asked by: fufu
It should but you need to clean off the area around where you are patching. I used a wire brush, them wiped it down with solvent and let it air dry before applying SteelStik and I had no problems with it adhering.
