Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Code Compliant I'm not sure why Home Depot sells residential receptacles that are not code compliant. For a residence, one must use tamper resistant receptacles - even when you're replacing a receptacle in an older home, the new receptacle must be tamper resistant. Source: NEC 406.12

Satin white plates would be non-standard. However, you might be able to find them somewhere.

Replacement wall plug does not appear to function like the old replaced plug.

I used standard no. plug 5320 to replace an old Leviton plug ( no part # shown on old plug but it looks more robust and is marked showing use for #12 and #14 solid wire only ). The old plug was controlled by a wall switch that also controlled a wall lamp in addition to the plug. I wired the new plug in the exact manner as the old plug was wired but the switch no longer works to shut off power to the plug and lamp. Both plug and lamp have power. Should #5320 work as a replacement in this case or do I need to use a different plug?
Asked by: klk
A half switched duplex receptacle must have the tab broken off between the screws on the hot side of the receptacle and you didn't do that.

Are these outlets approved for use in homes with aluminum wiring?

We have an older home with some aluminum wiring and have the old two-prong outlets, we would like to replace those outlets, are these outlets approved for use in that setting?
Asked by: Robin
Sorry to hear that you have aluminum wire. There are precautions that you must take with aluminum wire. Make sure that you use the screw down connections and not the push-in connections. Also make sure that they are very tight. Since aluminum oxidizes, make sure the wire is clean and bright. Using a little dielectric silicone compound (available at any auto parts store) will prevent the wire from corroding at the connection point.
