Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice mailbox Good solid product. Nice to replace my plain mailbox with a new security mailbox. Think that the mailman likes it too. He makes sure that the flag is set whenever mail is dropped. The downside is that it’s not very easy to figure out where the drop is. The ledge needs a tug to open. Have seen one person just leave the neighbourhood newsletter on top of the mailbox because he was not successful in tugging the ledge and opening it. Overall, it’s a good purchase. Looks good too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good solid mailbox. This design would indeed make it difficult to impossible for a potential identity thief to extract delivered mail. Drop slot is large enough, however, to permit receiving delivery of small packages, such as a DVD in a bubble-wrap envelope, which adds convenience. Box is well-designed to prevent water infiltration. Mine is installed facing the direction in which rain routinely is driven against it, yet my mail has never gotten wet. Spare keys may only be directly ordered from the company, as far as I know, but it comes with three copies of the key. Mounting system is simple. Now for the deficiencies: The top mounting bracket causes the mailbox to stand off from the wall by about 3/8", while the bottom of the box is flush with the wall. This is aesthetically displeasing when viewed from the side. Also, the top mounting bracket is held to the mailbox body by a couple of spot welds. This looks to me like a design weakness, in that someone could grab the top of the mailbox and probably manage, with enough force, to tear loose the mounting bracket and then be able to tear loose the three mounting screws which are at the very bottom of the box. It also leaves a gap into which snow and ice could flow behind the box during the winter. I don't yet know whether or not this will cause any problems. The size of the mailbox is large enough to easily accommodate more than a week's typical mail, and would hold a few bubble-pad small packages. Lock operates smoothly with the key inserted in either direction (uses a "sidewinder" lock). Finish is crackle paint. Let's see how long it lasts. This is generally a robustly built steel mailbox. Not perfect, but a good solid choice.
