Why is it that we must respect the EQUIVALENT rating for the wattage? I thought the actual wattage is what would be used. For example, using a 150-watt equivalent CFL should be OK, since it only uses 43W.

Asked by: Byrna5
Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. An example, if a 13-watt CFL equals a 60-watt incandescent lamp, that 13-watt lamp can be used in a fixture that has a MAX rating of >=60 watts. Please pay careful attention to the bulb manufacturer’s warning/caution statements on the packaging or printed on the lamp. Thanks!

I wanted to confirm that this lamp has a standard medium-sized edison type base, which I believe is known as an E26. I wanted to actually use a CFL inside this, the equivalent of 150W incandescent (or 42W approx). It is for indoor plant lighting.

Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. This fixture calls for Uses (1) 75-Watt PAR-30 or BR-30 bulb (not included). You can install CFL/LED lamps as long as the equivalent rating does not exceed the original maximum wattage. Please pay careful attention to the bulb manufacturer’s warning/caution statements on the packaging or printed on the lamp. For example, many CFL’s will indicate on the packaging that they cannot be used in an enclosed fixture or used with a dimmer. Thanks!
