Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for hot tub screen I made a blind for our hot tub on one side. I used 4x4 posts with a 2x4 rail top and bottom for 2 sections 42" wide and 54" high with cedar 6" fence boards, 26 slats total. I needed 3 packs for this. It turned out well and was fairly simple. The instructions are clear, with one exception. The method for 4" posts works only if you have access from the side, otherwise you may want to use the rivet method to attach the connectors. i.e. on one side, my 4x4 post was against a wall so I had to get a right angle drill and driver to finish this task.

I did have to do some figuring out and change the strip they supply with the holes. Only because of the length and width of my area that I put it up in. I had to also mount this vertically. Again only because my opening was bigger that what they recommend. But in the end it worked out and it looks great. A much bigger improvement as to what was there before. Now it will be just the test of time to see how this system will hold up for years.

I used the template provided, but once complete, I wished I would have moved it down 1/2 further than the template suggests. I now have a 1/2 gap on the bottom when the shutters are closed. So watch out for that when you install.

Would there be any issue using boards that are 90 inches long with this system

Hello Sir, The kits can take boards up to 10', however the longest the boards are the more they will twist over time. It is not a bracket / product issue but boards issue. Anything else, please let us know. Thanks

Can I use this to build a louvered wall 72" high and 48" wide?

Hello Sir, Absolutely, one kit will cover a opening of 49" high x 72" width, if you are planning to have a 72" height with horizontal board you will need 2 kits to cover that height. If you are using vertical board, one kit will be needed. Anything else, please let us know. Thanks

How many brackets come with this kit?

This question has a bit of a tricky answer. The short answer is that there are 22 louver brackets (enough for 11 louvers) and 10 connectors to attach each of those louvers to their neighbour. Note, however, that since the louvers are attached with individual connectors, you can use as many or as few as you want. You determine the number you'll need, based on the size of your opening (the calculation chart is included), then cut the drilling template accordingly to the proper length. In reality, then, you can use one kit to fill one big opening or several smaller ones. Say you have a couple of smaller openings which only require 5 louvers each to fill. There are more than enough brackets in 1 kit, and you'd only need 8 connectors, so you're good to go without having to buy 2 kits And if you're filling multiple openings (as I did when building our backyard pergola), you can mix and match. Just do the math to figure out exactly how many kits you'll need (i filled 5 medium-sized openings with 3 kits). One more tip: since the brackets will accept various thicknesses of wood, I'd recommend using deck boards (1") rather than fence boards (5/8") for the louvers. It makes the finished product much more sturdy, and the added weight had no negative impact on the mechanical smoothness when opening a set of louvers (if anything, it helped).

I know I can use this to build a wall 72” wide and 48” tall. Can I use it to build a wall 72” tall and 48” wide? I want to put the boards vertical not horizontal.

Based on my project (two horizontal sections about 48 x 48), I don't see why not. There is a plastic bushing so the two plates should still swivel despite having the weight on the bottom set of brackets.
