Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hardest part, preparing our foundation wall! We purchased this product to use over our exterior cement foundation of our home. Prior to using this product we used our pressure washer to remove the old paint and then used a chissle and a hammer to chip off weak pieces of old cement. We also found a lot of black tar on our foundation.. it was 61 years old and was a very thin coat like paint... we managed to remove it ourselves using a grinder...Nothing will stick to tar!! At this point we had a few deeper surfaces to fill so we used a concrete based product only on those surfaces to bring it flush to the rest of the wall. Now we were finally able to use this Quikrete parging mix .. We first lightly sprayed/ misted the wall and then the first batch we used was not sticking to the wall, it was just falling off but we forced it on. The second batch we made of the parging mix, we realized that we had to add more water and they say it should be a bit thinner than a peanut butter consistancey and that went on very well. We waited 24 hrs to apply the second coat of this parging mix. About 30 minutes later we used a wet sandpaper sponge for a rough effect and this actually helped us to make it look very even all over. We never did such a project before and we are actually very pleased on how it turned out. Note, if you are planning to use paint over the creeping, wait 7 days for water based paint and wait 28 days for oil based paint. By the way, dont mix more parging mix with water than you can use up before it dries out.

I have a porch that was redone with a decorative stone edge stamp. The concrete wasn't vibrated properly and there is a honeycomb effect on the edge. I would like to parge the edge. Is this a good product for that type of work?

Asked by: Alex
Quikrete Quick-Setting Cement is a good choice if they prefer fast setting product. Vinyl Concrete Patcher is another choice if they prefer long working time.

Can this be set over painted (not tarred, just paint) block foundation? Is this the correct 'type' of mix that wont cause issues with the existing mortar mix? House was built in 1911. Unsure of date of block. Hamilton Area production housing by Dafasco

Asked by: knen
QUIKRETE® Parging Mix can only be placed over clean, untreated concrete masonry units. Any paint must be completely removed before Parging Mix will bond.

Hi there. Is this product the same as what people normally refer to as a "pre mixed scratch and brown material"? I'm making a pizza oven and looking to use a stucco that's water repellant and can resist some heat.

Asked by: Tony
I dont know much about a pizza oven. I used this pre mixed for parging on a older home. I did all the prep work cleaned the surface. I applied two coats. One rough to even and then a finish. The product mixed very good, easy to apply. Dried in a good time to finish sponge texture. Temperature is critical, cooler temprature so it cures slower and easier to sponge and stopping any cracks. A good practice is to water the area for two days after. I was told that this makes it stronger and avoids cracking.I have used the triditional way mixing brick layers sand, portland cement, masonry cement, and sealbond cement. Lots of work compared to buying a product that you mix and apply.

guy before me painted old stamped parging for quick cheap upgrade to sell, I must now repaint as he used wrong paint, what should I use to repaint old and new parging? What is the best product to use? Thx

Asked by: Crackers
Good morning. We never recommend painting over parging or any cementicious products for that matter. The product must be able to breath naturally and when painted it no longer can do that. If you must paint it then use a waterbased paint. You will require repairs without a doubt in the future. Hope this helps. I specialize in rendering AKA parging. If you require assistance or advice please dont hesitate to call Elite Masonry Restoration. Always happy to help

I have hairline cracks around the parged exterior walls. How do I fill up the cracks with caulking? Would that match the parging texture? I used the Quikrete parging without any colouring.

Asked by: Dimos
QUIKRETE® Parging Mix is not suitable for filling hairline cracks. Filling these cracks on walls requires either a non-sagging sealant or an elastomeric coating. QUIKRETE® Non-Sag Sealant is suitable but is only available in gray. Custom color matching will only be convenient when using an elastomeric coating.

Two questions about your product, first after applying and sponging the surface, it looked good but 24 later when it dried there were multiple hairline cracks and surface colour was not uniform multiple shades of grey from dark to light, how can I correct

Asked by: Jack
I might guess not missed right, use a water bottle to mist and finesse. Areas of greater moisture take longer to dry, mine dried even eventually. For cracks, do a thinned down top coat.

Can you use this to resurface a walkway to make it look smoother? Most likely will be painting it with a cement paint afterwards

Asked by: emilio
Not a pro but I would say no. This is for mortar or smoothing surface of walls. You need a resurfacer. Quikrete site helpful.,renewal.%20Can%20be%20squeegee%2C%20trowel%20or%20brush%20applied.
