Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hardest part, preparing our foundation wall! We purchased this product to use over our exterior cement foundation of our home. Prior to using this product we used our pressure washer to remove the old paint and then used a chissle and a hammer to chip off weak pieces of old cement. We also found a lot of black tar on our foundation.. it was 61 years old and was a very thin coat like paint... we managed to remove it ourselves using a grinder...Nothing will stick to tar!! At this point we had a few deeper surfaces to fill so we used a concrete based product only on those surfaces to bring it flush to the rest of the wall. Now we were finally able to use this Quikrete parging mix .. We first lightly sprayed/ misted the wall and then the first batch we used was not sticking to the wall, it was just falling off but we forced it on. The second batch we made of the parging mix, we realized that we had to add more water and they say it should be a bit thinner than a peanut butter consistancey and that went on very well. We waited 24 hrs to apply the second coat of this parging mix. About 30 minutes later we used a wet sandpaper sponge for a rough effect and this actually helped us to make it look very even all over. We never did such a project before and we are actually very pleased on how it turned out. Note, if you are planning to use paint over the creeping, wait 7 days for water based paint and wait 28 days for oil based paint. By the way, dont mix more parging mix with water than you can use up before it dries out.

guy before me painted old stamped parging for quick cheap upgrade to sell, I must now repaint as he used wrong paint, what should I use to repaint old and new parging? What is the best product to use? Thx

Asked by: Crackers
I’m going to need a little bit more details here. Are you wanting to fill in the old stamped parging or literally paint it with a brush? If you’re looking to fill it in, then use quikrete mortar mix type n. Make sure it’s the mix and not just the cement. Fill everything in and then once it’s dry, you’ll have to apply a finish coat over everything to give it that smooth look.

I have rigid foam on the bottom of my walls in a section below the vinyl siding. It is cracked and decayed in a few places and looks unsightly. Can this parging mix be applied directly on top to provide a smooth and finished surface? Thanks

Asked by: Highlander
Unfortunately, QUIKRETE® Parging Mix will not bond directly to insulation foam. We recommend using QUIKRETE® Foam Coating, where available, or QUIKRETE® QUIKWall Surface Bonding Cement using Concrete Acrylic Fortifier as a partial water replacement. Water substitution rates can be found on the QUIKWall packaging. This product combination contains enough polymer to bond permanently to the insulation foam, and can be painted to match the surrounding area.

What is the ratio of portland cement, sand and lime in this product? Is it suitable to parge the basement of a stone foundation with lime based mortar or should Type S or Type N mortar be used?

Asked by: Jordan B
QUIKRETE® Parging Mix is typically a Type S mortar. As a non-structural element, either Type N or Type S masonry mortars can be used for parging.

Can this be used for stucco repair in garage over drywall? If not what is the product? Thanks

Asked by: TA26
QUIKRETE® Parging Mix should not be placed directly over drywall. It will not bond directly. A water barrier must first be installed; then self-furred lath should be applied.

Can this be applied directly to blue skin?

Asked by: Dave
Parging Mix applications over building wraps require mechanical fastening like self-furred lath.

Can this be applying to a block foundation? if so. is it painting? and how long do I have to wait before, after applying, painting it?

Asked by: Donny
Parging is typically done with a Type S masonry mortar. We recommend using QUIKRETE Parging Mix or QUIKRETE Mason Mix. Alternately, QUIKRETE offers QUIKWall Surface Bonding Cement, a fiber reinforced high strength mortar suitable for dry-stack construction. These products can be painted after seven days with water based acrylic paints, or after 28 days with epoxy or alkyd based paints.

Can you use this to resurface a walkway to make it look smoother? Most likely will be painting it with a cement paint afterwards

Asked by: emilio
Not a pro but I would say no. This is for mortar or smoothing surface of walls. You need a resurfacer. hello i was wondering if i can put this down on a pathway to make the cement that is there smooth and then will paint or seal it

Asked by: emilio
It's not really meant for that type of application...why not buy a commercial-grade sealer instead? Some of them dry smooth and can be painted. Or if you want to go with concrete, a self-leveling cement dries smooth but goes on wet so you'd need to ensure you don't let it spill out of your work area.
