Rated 4 out of 5 by from Changed Locks' Hinges to plastic I purchased one of these for my house a year ago, and because I knew they work and do stop the raccoons, I also purchased it for someone else this year. But in their product design something must have changed, because the lid locks break in the first or second use now. I am guessing they changed the hinge material and now the plastic hinge has no mechanical strength of material and breaks just upon arrival. However, the handles also help to keep the lid in place and it has been working fine, just that the ones they produced a year ago with metal hinges were much better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Can with One Design Flaw Bought two of these to get the upper hand on the local raccoons - so far the cans are doing the trick. I’ve found them tipped over a few times with paw prints all over them but no entry. My only gripe is the ridiculously flimsy plastic pins that hold the rubber handle clamp to the lid. After a few weeks, one on each of my new cans broke. For a few bucks in metal bolts/nuts readily found in the Home Depot fastener aisle and you’re all fixed up better than new.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great bin but... I was happy at first because it kept the raccons out of the bin however the clips the hold the lid in place broke fairly quick. I wanted a replacement lid but Home Depot has been out of stock. That said, the lid does fit nicely even without the clip. If they would make a model with wheels that would be even better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well, have had 10 years Yes, the 'locking' part eventually breaks (by garbage men or whoever) over time, but the handles still lock on the lid, and keeps out the raccoons overnight at the curb. For those who expect to keep out squirrels... that's unrealistic, they will chew through anything other than metal so get a metal can. We have some small squirrel holes/attempts to get through, but still holding strong. At one point, used a bungee cord to keep out a very tenacious raccoon but haven't needed to do that for some time. About to buy another one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bested by a Squirrel May as well just be a can without a lid. Within a week of purchasing this, a squirrel was able to make a hole and destroy the lid. Should be zero stars.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stops what? The squirrels chewed through it the first day. It was out in the garbage as garbage before the week was finished.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Anti animaux ? non !

WHY DON'T RUBBERMAID SELL LIDS ONLY FOR ANIMAL RESISTANT TRASH CANS? BOUGHT 3 NOW 2 ARE MISSING LIDS, BETWEEN TRASH TRUCKS RUNING OVER THE LID, AND SQUIRRELS EATING HOLES IN LID TOO EXPENSIVE FOR NOT HAVING PARTS AVAILABLE

Asked by: BOB W
True, they should sell the kids separately as we experienced the same issue.
