Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth it I read all the reviews and at first I decide to go with another brand , then I drove by a home Depo and thought I'll just have a look at one, after seeing it I bought it . It took me about 15-20 minutes to set it up and it's perfect , my other drill press lasted me15 years and I wore it out, I don't know what people are doing wrong when they set them up but they should follow the instructions when doing so , I do alot of welding , building tree stands and gun rests and vices, this press is impressive and the price can't be matched .some people complained that the light bulb didn't come with it , well maybe you should put better lighting in your shop, plus another complaint was the laser , are you people for real that's what rulers, tape measures and center punches are for it's a $120 get real go price a Ridgid , Rockwell or a delta and see what you get and how much you'll be paying

Rated 4 out of 5 by from drill press I had a little problem adjusting the laser beam. However once done the machine is in perfect order. I am using it on the daily base. I would recommend it for use to anybody. It has the functions of a more expensive drill press.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ryobi 12 in benchtop drill press assembly was simple laser was already pre aligned everything works as it should fit and finish is a little rough but functionality is first rate, variable speed is a great feature main reason for purchase, digital speed display seems fairly close but like the laser a nice feature but not a deal breaker.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quality is a question but if you get a good one they're great. Bought this about a week ago. Put it together and could not get the drill table to move up and down the shaft. The gears were not finish cut so they did not mesh properly. Thankfully,HD let me exchange the defective mechanism with one from a floor model saving me from hauling the entire thing back to the store for exchange. Unlike some of the other reviewers, the runout on my spindle and chuck were good. No wobble of the drill bit at all. The display is still working and the motor is nice and quiet. The speed adjuster lever was a little stiff but I loosened that up with some molly (you'll have to take the top cover off to lube the shaft). When I went to adjust the lasers, one of the set screws was screwed in too tight from the factory and had crushed the laser housing. This meant I couldn't adjust it because the set screw would seat back into the dented housing. I ended up rotating the entire laser housing 180deg to a section that was not crushed and then could adjust the cross-hair properly. As another reviewer mentioned, don't tighten the set scews! All you need to do is snug them down. The laser housings are made of brass and will deform very easily. I have to agree with the other reviews about the built in light, not very bright (however, I could not find a 120VAC candelabra bulb, HD only sold 140VAC). I'm going to see about using a CFL light next. Still, you would be better served buying a separate work light. One thing worth noting is that for whatever reason, the RPM display is always powered. What I mean by this statement is that although the unit may be switched off and the display appears to be off, the circuitry for the display is always powered on. I found that with the motor switch off, if I rotated the chuck by hand I could get an RPM reading to appear in the display. Very odd. Maybe this is why some people have the displays stop working after a time. I would recommend that if the machine is not in use that it be unplugged. We'll see how long my display lasts... So is this thing plug and play? Not really. Some may be fine right out of the box, others may need some tweaking. Still, this is an "inexpensive" drill press that is variable speed. This unit has features of the much more expensive machines for a lot less $$$. You get what you pay for but if you're lucky and get a good one its a great machine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from don't fall for the low price I like to touch, feel, and test tools at a local retailer whenever possible, so I buy a lot from Home Depot. This tool met my criteria--I was looking for the longest spindle stroke I could get in a bench top model. This one is over 3 inches and the reviews were fair, and the price was great. However mine went back to the store the next day. The laser and led display quit working right after I adjusted them, and I had to bang on the unit to make them work. Then the motor rattles and wobbles the unit. According to the instructions this might indicate a belt needs to be adjusted--but the instructions say nothing about how to adjust a belt. Yeah I could've taken it apart and figured it out but at this point I don't trust the thing not to catch fire from an electrical short. Because Home Depot has excellent customer service they refunded me with no problem and sent it back to the manufacturer. I'm still shopping for a better brand--this time I won't be so afraid to spend a little more for quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ryobi DP121L Drill Press Tool is easy to assemble and works fine. It offers many features that are found on more expensive tools. I use it for small home repairs, not for heavy duty contractor work. Home Depot replaced my first unit no questions asked after Ryobi phone tech decided it had a couple of features that were damaged during shipment. Tool is heavy duty construction. Castings are a bit rough, but, working portion isfine with adjustable laser and multiple speeds easy to change with lever. Laser is easy to align. Boxed up it is close to 100 lbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice drill press I love this drill press. The variable speed control is great for the price. I am much more likely to use the correct drill speed when I do not have to fuss with changing a belt on pulleys. The light socket is rated for low wattage, but works well with a power saving florescent bulb. The chuck is solid and uses a #2 morris taper. The drill press is bolted to my solid work space and is a very welcome addition to my garage workshop. I would recommend this drill press to a friend. Great value for the price.

What is the outside diameter of the column on the 12'' model?

I have some drill press accessories, but they will only fit a 2.25'' column (+/- 1/8"). Thanks for any help/answers on that! I went to my local HD, but they didn't have any in stock :(

How do I adjust the belt tension on the 12" model?

I'm getting a bit of noise, and I'd like to try reducing the belt tension before I take it apart and exchange it.
    Asked by: Anonymous
You really can't reduce the belt tension. It is automatic between the two pulleys. If the belt is squeeking, and if the unit is under 30 days and you have receipt please exchange it. Otherwise you are under warranty for 3 years, perhaps a service center will give you a new belt if the machine is not old and the belt not worn. The belt is a wearable part technically.

Is there suppose to be a vise included in the Ryobi 12 " variable spd drill press ?

I just purchased one and there was not on in the box.
    Asked by: Anonymous
We do not include that any longer. The grooves in the table will accomodate aftermarket vises however.

What is the largest size dill the chuck can handle?

    Asked by: Anonymous
It has a 1/2 inch chuck on the unit. As far as the motor power, it's top capacity would about 1 inch on a solid drill and 2 1/2 inches to 33 inches for a hole saw or forstner bit.
