  1. Its easy to make noisy neighbours and noisy traffic a thing of the past with SONOPAN soundproofing panels. No matter what your noise problem, SONOPAN is the right soundproofing solution for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great results for airborne sound dampening Wish I used this at my rental suits. I just finished installing this for a client who is creating a legal basement apartment. They will be living upstairs and they don't want to hear their renters. This combined with Rockwool is the perfect solution. We tested it (prior to 5/8 drywall) and the results were awesome. The clients are very happy. It should be even quieter after adding the 5/8. Install is very easy with a pneumatic crown stapler or just drywall screws. To cut, I used my skill saw, hole saw and a fiend. It’s very dusty so I vacuumed frequently. (An attachment for the saw would haven been better) Very nice product. Will use it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a difference, easy install I had a client who was looking for some additional sound deadening for a suite they were putting in their home. I recommend using sonopan. This was a breeze to put up and just cut with my skill saw outside. My son and I had 21 sheets up in about 3 hours, we installed using a crown stapler with 1.5inch staples. I definitely recommend cutting outside if using a skill saw unless you have dust collection. Now that I have installed and taped and finished the ceiling the noise from the giant dogs running around upstairs was un-noticeable , compared with nothing installed. Highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommended Renovated an older house head to toe with one of my bigger worries being noise transfer from upstairs to downstairs. We have a high energy 2 year old that could keep anyone up at night. After lots of research I installed the sonopans with resilient channel before putting the drywall up and I’m beyond happy with the turnout. My sister gets alot of upstairs noise from her neighbour in her condo and I’m trying to push these on her as well. will definitely recommend to anyone I know doing renovations, new builds or simply sick of hearing their neighbour. Can’t wait to try out in my future guitar room and crank the volume.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performs well I hadn’t heard of this product before using it. The application was for a basement ceiling where the tv is and the kid’s toy room. I was in contact with the company rep who was very friendly and knowledgeable. Product is very easy to cut with tablesaw/circular saw. Not too heavy for overhead installation. I installed it with drywall screws and washers which keep the panels in place until drywalled. There was a night and day difference in the sound levels between floors after installing the Sonopan. Definitely recommend as part of a soundproofing package.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soundproofing using sonopan panels If you’re looking for actual sound proofing (and opposed to sound deadening) this product will not do it alone. If you just want your room quieter then this is a very good and affordable choice. For my bedroom, I used the Sonopan panels against the studs, then resilient channel, then two layers of 5/8” drywall with green glue between the layers. My kids can scream as loud as they want and I don’t hear them. Note that you must ensure you have proper air sealing, including green glue sealant around all the edges and covering the back of electrical boxes - you can use expensive putty pads, or for a fraction of the cost, I used duct putty. Unlike the putty pads, you can put 2”+ of duct putty, fully encapsulating the electrical box and preventing air / sound transmission.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Well For Acoustic Panels I recently got some Sonopan sheets to use for making acoustic panels in my home studio and they worked really well! I built 2x4 frames for them, filled them with Sonoran, then stretched fabric over them and hung them on the wall. They look much better than many other acoustic panels and because the Sonoran is so thin it doesn't stick off of the wall nearly as much as other acoustic panels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great solution to an old problem We had a noise issue between two tenants in adjoining units where a living room wall and bedroom met. We required a solution that would not increase the thickness of the wall significantly and decided to try sonopan. Sonopan was installed on top of the existing drywall with panel glue and screws. Afterwards we finished the surface of sonopan with 1/2” drywall, however the end user can choose any finish and fasten it like they would to studs. Overall, sonopan served as an easy solution to our problem without compromising existing fire rating and worked great for our retrofit needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Product!!! I am a general Contractor in Calgary and I used this product for the first time on a job for a client that was renovating a bungalow to transform it into a B&B...we installed the SONOpan on the ceiling joists in the lower unit ...re installed new drywall...let me tell you it is incredible...when you are upstairs you can not hear anything from below and we sound tested with loud music....also the same when you are down stairs as well as no sound from foot traffic above..we will be using this in all our future renovations that require sound proofing A+++++++++++++++

Must these panels be covered with drywall? Building a small sound booth for recording, hoping to leave the panels exposed. Thank you!

Asked by: Jibe
Not necessarily, it’s more about looks. For a recording booth will work perfectly

Can I use Sonopan to put over a window to reduce noise coming from the street?  My idea is to have Home Depot cut it to the exact size of the interior window(s) frame, put it up each night and then remove it every morning.  Is this possible?

Asked by: gojays1
I think this is an interesting idea. The negative points addressed by the other persons are valid ... but don't let this discourage you. Sonopan is a fantastic solution and but it is up to you to make it work for your respective application. You simply have to come up with a creative solution to mitigate these issues. To be effective, you will need to create a frame around the panels, possibly made of wood and then cover it all with fabric. These panels are quite fragile, especially the edges and corners and the material as it releases lots of fibers. If you come up with a minimal and light frame/casing for the sonopan panels ...that can hang around the window frame and also snug to the wall .... then I think you have a winning solution.

I live in a townhome. I hear a lot of thuds, from people walking around and the tv bass as well.  Every now and again a bit of the thud will translate into my unit and I can hear my wall crack slightly. Is this a good use case for this?

Asked by: Dizzylly
Hi There, The type of noise you're describing is impact noise, which is very difficult to address once it enters the structure of the building. The best solution is to retrofit SONOpan, resilient channel and 5/8 type X drywall. With impact noise, there is not a standard expectation for the level of improvement, each situation will be different.

Hello, can I use it on the condo window in the evening to insulate traffic noise?

Asked by: jamesjzw
It is not very visually appealing and a bit heavy and bendy but I suppose it might work to muffle the noise.

Is the as effective over existing drywall? All but one of these reviews show this installed directly over the studs. The one review that shows I o er existing drywall states it didn’t work. Anyone had experience leaving the existing wall in place?

Asked by: Dizzylly
SONOpan can be very effective for airborne noise reduction over existing drywall if you're able to seal off an area. Be aware that any openings for outlets can weaken the results and flanking (sound travelling around the soundproofed area) can lead to some sound transmission.

Finished basement - noise currently heard on 2nd floor. If install over existing drywall I am worried if there isn't currently enough insulation it will still be noisy. Is it better to remove the drywall + add insulation

Asked by: Lisa25
I added the Light-Weight Soundproofing Panels on the walls as I'm on a busy street. I might say that has reduced noise by 40 %. I just added the pannel over the existing drywall.

If I layer these over top of my bedroom wall, will they reduce sound coming from my room mate on the other side?

Asked by: Kevin
Somewhat, but you need you learn about acoustics. For example, a gap between the two would improve dampening. Another layer, of say wood would help as well. Some internet research would be illuminating.

Can this product be painted?

Asked by: Swill
Painting SONOpan is possible despite the fact it isn't a smooth, uniform surface by design, especially by spray application with the right paint, but doing so may compromise sound absorption effectiveness of the panels. SONOpan is not meant to be left exposed, but rather sandwiched between layers of drywall or behind drywall, so paint could peel, chip or flake off if the panels are left exposed (i.e., the appearance, quality and durability of the finish could be very problematic).
