Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great results for airborne sound dampening Wish I used this at my rental suits. I just finished installing this for a client who is creating a legal basement apartment. They will be living upstairs and they don't want to hear their renters. This combined with Rockwool is the perfect solution. We tested it (prior to 5/8 drywall) and the results were awesome. The clients are very happy. It should be even quieter after adding the 5/8. Install is very easy with a pneumatic crown stapler or just drywall screws. To cut, I used my skill saw, hole saw and a fiend. It’s very dusty so I vacuumed frequently. (An attachment for the saw would haven been better) Very nice product. Will use it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a difference, easy install I had a client who was looking for some additional sound deadening for a suite they were putting in their home. I recommend using sonopan. This was a breeze to put up and just cut with my skill saw outside. My son and I had 21 sheets up in about 3 hours, we installed using a crown stapler with 1.5inch staples. I definitely recommend cutting outside if using a skill saw unless you have dust collection. Now that I have installed and taped and finished the ceiling the noise from the giant dogs running around upstairs was un-noticeable , compared with nothing installed. Highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommended Renovated an older house head to toe with one of my bigger worries being noise transfer from upstairs to downstairs. We have a high energy 2 year old that could keep anyone up at night. After lots of research I installed the sonopans with resilient channel before putting the drywall up and I’m beyond happy with the turnout. My sister gets alot of upstairs noise from her neighbour in her condo and I’m trying to push these on her as well. will definitely recommend to anyone I know doing renovations, new builds or simply sick of hearing their neighbour. Can’t wait to try out in my future guitar room and crank the volume.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performs well I hadn’t heard of this product before using it. The application was for a basement ceiling where the tv is and the kid’s toy room. I was in contact with the company rep who was very friendly and knowledgeable. Product is very easy to cut with tablesaw/circular saw. Not too heavy for overhead installation. I installed it with drywall screws and washers which keep the panels in place until drywalled. There was a night and day difference in the sound levels between floors after installing the Sonopan. Definitely recommend as part of a soundproofing package.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soundproofing using sonopan panels If you’re looking for actual sound proofing (and opposed to sound deadening) this product will not do it alone. If you just want your room quieter then this is a very good and affordable choice. For my bedroom, I used the Sonopan panels against the studs, then resilient channel, then two layers of 5/8” drywall with green glue between the layers. My kids can scream as loud as they want and I don’t hear them. Note that you must ensure you have proper air sealing, including green glue sealant around all the edges and covering the back of electrical boxes - you can use expensive putty pads, or for a fraction of the cost, I used duct putty. Unlike the putty pads, you can put 2”+ of duct putty, fully encapsulating the electrical box and preventing air / sound transmission.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Well For Acoustic Panels I recently got some Sonopan sheets to use for making acoustic panels in my home studio and they worked really well! I built 2x4 frames for them, filled them with Sonoran, then stretched fabric over them and hung them on the wall. They look much better than many other acoustic panels and because the Sonoran is so thin it doesn't stick off of the wall nearly as much as other acoustic panels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great performance! I used SONOpan in our townhome and it really helped to block sound from our neighbours. Installation was simple and quick. Also, our contractor was so impressed that he now wants to now use it for all his jobs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING Solution for sound proofing Honestly was a bit skeptical at first. Was looking into many options of soundproofing for a newly finished basement with tenants. This was exactly what I needed, you do not have to rip out previous drywall, can be laid right over to create layers of soundproofing. It is fairly dusty with the fibers so ensure you wear proper masking and ventilation. They are light and easy to install and can be pair with the green soundproofing adhesive. Pretty affordable as well, will definitely use again for future projects!

Must these panels be covered with drywall? Building a small sound booth for recording, hoping to leave the panels exposed. Thank you!

Asked by: Jibe
I bought these panels last year. They do hold out the noise quite well, but I would say they are better than acoustic panels, but they aren't soundproof. Therefore, you may need dry way. Word of advice, cover them up, even if you don't put dry wall. Rubbing or knocking into the panels will make everything and i mean everything will be green. I don't have my panels covered and I have to vaccum surfaces of green, green, green. I made the mistake of cutting the panels indoors and EVERYTHING got covered in green. So maybe you may want to use drywall with that green soundproofing glue and a. It of insulation. But if you're looking to save space, maybe just padded sheet for additional soundproofing and to cover the green. If you're recording, having a good XLR mic and audio set up can help.

Can I use Sonopan to put over a window to reduce noise coming from the street?  My idea is to have Home Depot cut it to the exact size of the interior window(s) frame, put it up each night and then remove it every morning.  Is this possible?

Asked by: gojays1
I would not recommend that type of use. When cutting and handling these panels there is a lot of fibers released and and the edges get banged up pretty easily. I think that after a couple removals from the window frames you would be ready to throw them out. They are not intended to be handled daily.

Hello, can I use it on the condo window in the evening to insulate traffic noise?

Asked by: jamesjzw
Suggestion: you could put a sonopan sheet inside a wood frame, sandwiched between two thing layers of wood or mdf, and paint the whole thing in white (or your walls color). It would look nice, clean, could be removed easily and would muffle the sound.

Finished basement - noise currently heard on 2nd floor. If install over existing drywall I am worried if there isn't currently enough insulation it will still be noisy. Is it better to remove the drywall + add insulation

Asked by: Lisa25
I added the Light-Weight Soundproofing Panels on the walls as I'm on a busy street. I might say that has reduced noise by 40 %. I just added the pannel over the existing drywall.

If I layer these over top of my bedroom wall, will they reduce sound coming from my room mate on the other side?

Asked by: Kevin
Not sure how stacking them will work. We used resilient channels, these panels, rock wool and then dry wall for our apartment and it did a great job. You can hear something only if you really try. If it's to put over the wall, maybe look for mass vinyl.

Can I use Sonopan with resilient channel? What's the sequence of installation?

Asked by: Danny
Hi, Thank you for this question. Resilient channel, Isolation clips or a gap between walls helps in certain situations. This strategy is called de-coupling and as it sounds, it is a soundproofing method used to separate two materials thus stopping the path of sound vibrations. We generally don't see many single-family homes that opt for the resilient channel, however, it is recommended for party walls and ceilings where bass frequencies or impact sounds are likely to be present. Although SONOpan can be used alone and absorbs a wide range of noise frequencies, including low bass, it is designed to be used in conjunction with other standard materials to achieve better soundproofing. If SONOpan is combined with insulation (fibreglass, wool or cellulose) and 5/8 drywall, a much better overall soundproofing result will be achieved. This and further information, including installation, can be found on the SONOpan site here: https://sonopan.com/faqs/

Can these be installed over old hardwood floors, with floating vinyl planks on top? Also - can you install ceramic tiles over these?

Asked by: geoh
SONOpan is made for walls and ceilings, it cannot be used on floors.

Hi. Are they absorbing the sound? I wanted to build sound barrier around outdoor ac unit and place them inside the barrier and then cover with mass loaded vinyl. Would that work do you think? thanks

Asked by: serg
Hi! So I don’t have the answer from personal experience because I used them to soundproof a wall and I still hear sounds through the floor (ie the sound I was trying to block was not sourced from the wall). These are supposed to be the best though so I would do what you are planning.
