Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty effective As long as you spread this product early in the season, it cuts down on the lions considerably. In past years I spread it too late (around May in Montreal) and it was not effective. I still had to dig up a few bags, but my experience in the last two years is that I saw about 25% fewer lions than usual. I am probably not spreading it evenly since I saw lions popping up mostly at the edge of my lawn. And I found it worked better than CIL. Another thing, don't be cheap with it. I was more generous with it in the backyard and I could see the difference. It's a really good tool, but don't expect zero lions, that is impossible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Avoid This Product One of the worse products I have ever purchased from HD. The bright orange pellets have not broken up after almost two months. Rain, spring snow, sprinklers—nothing dissolves this stuff. I will be raking it up so I can buy something different and applying that instead. Waste of money, waste of time. Oh, and it doesn't work either—lots of NEW dandelions and weeds. I wish I had kept the receipt and the bag so I could ask for my money back, but I was so anxious to get rid of the stuff I threw out the remaining product. This is a failed product HD needs to remove from their shelves and refund customers' money. I almost want to go to the store and put a warning on the shelf so other people don't waste their money—it's that bad.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Product We put the Vigoro Weed 'n' Feed on our lawn a couple weeks ago. The lawn looks worse that before applying this product and still has all these orange pellets that refuse to break down no matter how much rain or hand watering is done. I haven't been able to let my dogs onto the lawn for fear they will eat the pellets. I called their customer support line and they assured me it was not toxic to pets because it contains cornmeal. The product description specifically states "Toxic to Pets". Not only is their product garbage, customer support is not any better. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Use It Save your money for a product that works. Weeds were just as bad after using this and we actually needed to put down another fertilizer with more Nitrogen content to feed the lawn. A 9-0-0 is not good enough to feed the lawn. Needs to be much higher around 27-0-0 or better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Stuff. Have used this product for a few years now and I believe it works great. If you apply it in early spring per the instructions, it works well. It won't kill existing weeds but it's not designed to which is why you need to get it down early. Yep, takes some time to break down but it does eventually.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not breaking down, and dog ate some this product is not breaking down, and I found our 22lb dog eating it! Is this product harmful to our dog, and do I need to remove it from my lawn since it is not breaking down?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor results I bought 2 bags of this product for my lawn and applied it 3 weeks ago. My grass is no greener and it did not prevent any weeds. It appears that others in the neighbourhood who used the same product have had similar results.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Vigaro high priced low results I spread the product as directed. I still got weeds and crabgrass growing after the spread. Waste of money. L

Can I apply a spring fertilizer to get a nice green lush lawn, then apply this Weed 'n' Feed afterward?  If so, how long do I need to wait before applying the Weed 'n' Feed, please?

Asked by: Peter G
Corn gluten meal (CGM) as a lawn weedkiller has its fans and critics. As a pre-emergent herbicide, you have to time its spring application to just before the weeds appear. The best "clock" for this is probably a Forsythia bush. As soon as the Forsythia buds appear is when to apply CGM. Another thing to note is that, of the 3 nutrients in lawn fertilizer, CGM contains only nitrogen. Too much nitrogen is not good for lawns, so the advice is to avoid using CGM at the same time as a lawn fertilizer. A fertilizer like Vigoro should be applied 4 times a year. I used to replace 2 of those with CGM. To be effective, you have to be generous in the application of CGM. Finally, the effects are cumulative: You're supposed to notice improvement over the seasons. I have used CGM for three years now and, to be quite honest, I haven't really noticed enough benefit for the effort and the $ outlay. In Ontario, healthy grass and pulling out weeds manually seem to be the way to go, unless your plot is sizable, in which case you might need to also use Weed B Gon or similar. Hope that helps.

When can I overseed after using this product?

Asked by: JDan
After using Vigoro Weed N Feed 9-0-0 Corn Gluten Meal you may seed/overseed/sod/sprigging after 1 month of the application. Note, corn gluten can also suppress the germination of turf grass seeds, so wait four to six weeks after for its herbicidal effects to wear off.

Will rain affect how this product works on weeds? Is it necessary to wait for some rain-free days?

Asked by: Will
Apply Vigoro Weed 'n' Feed when soil is moist and when rain is forecasted within 2 days of treatment, if rainfall does not occur within 2 days of treatment, irrigation is required.

Hello...what is the best ground and air temperature that this should be applied at for spring dandilions and crabgrass germination primarily. Also how long after broadcasting before you should think about overseeing with grass seed?

Asked by: Barrys
Barry in the spring apply the Vigoro Weed & Feed with 100% Corn Gluten once the soil temperatures reach 12.8 degrees Celsius. Which means the average air temperature is 22.8 degrees Celsius. If using the product in spring, do not seed until the fall or at least 4-6 weeks after the application.
