Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best sander ever I am remodeling our office at work - building new desks and storage cabinets. My old sander died an untimely death so I was looking around for a new sander. I have always had good luck with DeWALT tools so thought I would give this one a shot. So far I have completed one of the desks and two of the cabinets and this sander is 5 stars all the way!!!! To date I have gone through roughly 75 to 100 sanding discs - everything from 60 to 220 grit with no problems - this thing is a work horse! I have it connected to my dust collection system and there is virtually no dust left behind. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a random orbital sander!!

This product worked for a year and then broke. it worked great, operated as expected, overall was pleased until the sanding pad broke off (the velcro holding on the pads). I replaced with the OEM version and it broke off again after about a week. After investigating further, the centering wheel underneath the pad has completely worn out and even melted down in some places. Overall I'm disappointed because this is yet another tool that is rendered useless because they decided to cheap out on a few critical parts that can't be replaced, everything else on it works great, but not much of a sander without a sanding pad.

I'd been sanding on it literally for days with a different sander and nothing was happening. Within 5 minutes, this thing took down an 1/8 inch divot to a point that you can't even tell anything was wrong. Hardwood, by the way. I bought Diablo universal pads to go with it and they worked very well. The dust bag does work, but you can still get choked out if you don't have a mask or a strong fan. It's fairly light and easy to move around. If you stop moving with it still running, it will keep digging into the work surface. https://youtu.be/NGkGjj3kjTo

It is great sander except Dewalt goofed on the design making it require multiple adapters to connect to a shop vacuum. You will need a DWV9000 adapter plus another to get to the correct vacuum hose slip end diameter. So plan on spending another 30 dollars to connect to a vaccum. Although Home Depot display says it comes with the adapter, it does not. They don't stock the adapters either. I plan on sacrificing the dust bag and turn it into an adapter by custom turning pvc on a lathe to adapter to vacuum hose. Sounds like a youtube video idea. Shame on Dewalt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get what you pay for. I got this after the wife and I had got 2 Skil orbital sanders like this one(she wanted to help out). I thought those did a decent job, until I burned both of them out after about a week of medium sanding. I went with DeWalt because I had always heard good things about them. After using this sander for about a month now, I can say it is by far the best sander that I have used! Its tough, and gets the job done very well. The hook & loop system on this is ALOT better then the skil ones. They are smaller, and there is more of them(I would say about twice as many). I have yet to have one of the sanding pads fly off like they did on the other cheap sanders I used before. When it comes to sanders....you get what you pay for. Dont be cheap like I was, get a DeWalt!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from YOU CAN GET THE VAC ATTACHMENT!!! To all of you 'pros" that are whining that DeWalt doesn't have a vac attachment for this tool, stop claiming to be a professional. If you can't look past your local big box store, you are not fit to be reviewing the tool. DeWalt now uses what it calls the "Air Lock" attachment system. The part number you need for this sander is DWV9000. I find it's available all over the place local + the internet. I just ordered mine, excited to get it and get some cleaner air. Now back to sanding my nursery furniture, she will be here in less than a month!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Orbital sander I like the sander. It sands well. Fits in my hand well and is easy to use. My only complaint is the ability to attach the sander to my Rigid vacuum. I have now spend over $50. on Home Depot and De Walt attachments so that it will fit my Rigid hose. No matter what I have bought, none of the attachments will help the sander to fit. Period! De Walt should be ashamed to have changed the dust port the way they did, then try to sell a "universal port adapter" that fits NO attachments. The old DeWalt sander had no issues to attach to my sander. Other than that it is a great sander.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Sander This sander is excellent, solid construction, good fit in your hands, one hand or with both. The smooth start up is a great feature and the variable speed is a must for me. Handles great, not too much vibration and the dust collector attaches firmly and works well. As far as the machine goes in my opinion it's perfect, the only negative is it doesn't come with a hard case. It comes with a useless nylon bag, I'm saying it's useless because when you put the sander inside it the weight is so unevenly distributed you can't even carry it, not to mention you can't stack it with the rest of your tools. I fault Stanley/Black & Decker for cutting costs here, a hard case for you tools is necessary. I've looked for a replacement case online and they are around $50.00 new, crazy.

Corded or Cordless?

The description says cordless, but the picture shows corded. The specs say corded in one place and cordless in another. Who ever did this should be reprimanded and possibly demoted, if there's anything lower, which there's probably not because you had an unpaid intern do it.
Asked by: SandyCofax
This is a corded sander. You can get cordless sanders such as the Ridgid 18-Volt 5 in. Cordless Random Orbit Sander Model # R8606B. But unless you are doing work far from a plug, I would recommend a corded tool.

How is the sandpaper attached to the rotary base?

How is the sandpaper attached to the rotary base?
Asked by: Bubba
The pads I bought are held on my a fuzzy texture, almost like Velcro. When you place it on the sander it sticks on and I have not had any issue with them moving during use. I couldn't be happier with this sander and how it functions.

Do I need to buy a separate attachmet to put on the hook and loop disks?

Does this already have the hook and loop backing or do I have to buy a separate piece?
Asked by: Liz
You do not, it is good to go. you just need to buy the disks separately (remember to buy different 'grains' of paper for each type of work). machine works as advertised. good luck

What is hook and loop?

Asked by: Danielle
Essentially it's velcro. Velcro is actually a brand name so they use a different term. It works just fine though.

Can sander be used on wallboard ?

Asked by: Bill
Yes, you can use a sander on wallboard. I would offer these suggestions however; 1. Make sure you use proper personal protection to use a sander on wallboard; Goggles, breathing (dust) mask, long sleeves. Dust from sanding is very fine and will get into everything. 2. Close off the area to the rest of the house to include ventilation ductwork, using a sander on drywall and plaster is very dusty and messy. If available attach a vacuum cleaner with a filter rated for very fine particles. You can even set the vacuum up to run openly in the room.
