Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works but not intuitive to setup I'm an IT pro and I have now setup 3 of these units. I can agree that the average person is going to have a lot of difficulties setting these units up. Even myself it took 3 attempts for the units to download the WIFI config. Do they control the baseboard heaters after they are configured? Yes. Would I buy them again? Maybe. Is there an alternative to controlling these DImplex heaters. I could not find an alternative so I don't think there is a choice. The instructions could have been better written. As others have mentioned all of the functions should be controlled from the app. The screen is hard to use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY. Does not work, waste of time. Short and Sweet: This product is poorly designed and impossible to set up. If zero stars was an option I would give that. Full details: I have not ever reviewed anything before but have also never encountered such a poorly designed product. I hope my experience will prevent you from experiencing the same frustrations. I do not work for any heating companies; I am just a dude who is updating his old house. I am fully renovating my house and just replaced all of my baseboards with Dimplex smart baseboards and got two programmable Dimplex Connex Wi-Fi thermostats to control them (these are all being returned). I was excited by the idea that I could control all of my baseboards (8 rooms) from just two thermostats (each thermostat can theoretically control 4 baseboards). I had the baseboards installed by an electrician and then spent 3 hrs trying to get the Connex thermostats connected to my Wi-Fi. I ran into a number of issues with this thermostat: 1) The thermostat(s) connect to your phone by sending out a Wi-Fi signal that you then connect to with your device (sounds reasonable). The problem, is that neither thermostat would produce a Wi-Fi signal - i tried 3 different devices (IOS and Android) and tried my 5.0 ghz and 2.4 ghz Wi-Fi networks. I got the Connex wifi signal to appear once on my iPhone XR, and then it never showed up again (never showed up on the other devices either). I tried unplugging the thermostat and my router from the wall and letting it sit for 10 minutes then plugging it back in, uninstalling the app, restarting my devices... nothing worked. Also note, you need two devices to set this up, as the instructional YouTube video can only be accessed through the app, so you need one device to watch the video while you try to copy the syncing steps on a second device. 2) The Connex thermostat is not designed to be hardwired into the wall. It is powered by a micro USB port that plugs into a wall outlet (cord and USB wall plug are included). It comes with a wall mounting plate, but you will still have a cord that comes out of the thermostat and plugs into a wall outlet. Dimplex clearly just used the body of an existing product (the "dumb" version of this thermostat) and the USB cable plugs into a port in the battery compartment (no batteries can be installed in this unit). The USB plug is in a very awkward location and is difficult to plug in. I was worried I would break something while getting it in and getting the cable to fit into its designated spot. 3) You need to log in to each thermostat with a unique email address, so if you want to install more than one Connex Wi-Fi thermostat you will need to set up multiple email accounts (very much not ideal). 4) I tried to contact Dimplex to trouble shoot my connection issues, the chat bot on their website says it is offline (found reviews from 2017 that said the same thing so i think it has never been online) and I was not able to get through to anyone via their customer support line. 5) Since I could not get this to work and could not get through to customer service, I spent a lot of time digging through forums and other reviews of this product. Very little customer support information is available online, and most reviews are 1 or 2 stars, with products breaking after 6 months to a year. Wish I had done my research before wasting time and money on this garbage product. 6) This thermostat is intended to be used with the Dimplex "Smart" baseboards. I would assume that "smart" means connected to Wi-Fi, but that is not how these devices work. Instead, the baseboards communicate with the thermostat via radio frequency (some advantages to this), but this means that you can ONLY use a Dimplex thermostat to remotely operate the "smart" baseboards. So don't expect you will be able to use a different smart thermostat to operate your "smart" baseboards. Given all of these issues I will be removing all of the installed "smart" baseboards and the "smart" thermostats and returning them to HD. I won't be able to recover the cost of the electrician and am frustrated that Dimplex is selling a product that clearly has not been properly tested and I am frustrated that HD is carrying such a poor product. I will be re-installing dumb baseboards (not purchased from HD and not Dimplex) that will be connected to a Mysa or Sinepro smart thermostat.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flaky and unreliable, IF you can get it set up We've had the Connex heaters for more than two years and the only controller that kind of worked was the basic up and down single zone controller. Recently we have been moving to a smart home so I tried using the wifi controller and it was the worst experience yet. It took more than two hours to set up and get it to (hopefully) sync with a few heaters. Since that time it's been sort of working but unreliable and seems to just change the temperature on its own. The app is clunky and awful to use but at least it is usable because trying to do anything on the touch screen is impossible. It is also incompatible with Google Home or any of the other smart home systems. I am in the process of wiring my heaters to bypass the onboard "smart" controllers and using line voltage thermostats that actually work and will connect to our smart home. This means I have to fish wire and open up my drywall which is annoying. If you're already stuck with these Connex heaters bypassing the wiring and using better thermostat controls is the way to go. Otherwise don't buy these "smart" heaters and controller, just buy the plain old dumb ones and wire in a proper thermostat control from the start.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Perhaps confusing to setup, yet works as intended Bought this summer, as others have written get the app and use that rather than the controller. Controller must be used to sync a baseboard, then you can use the app exclusively. Wish they would redevelop the app. Patience will get you a setup which works as intended, although it could be made a bit more intuitive. Don't give up if you get frustrated with the setup!

Does the app for controlling the heaters have geofencing capabilities? Where it will start to heat when I get within a certain distance of my house? If not, would this possibly be added in the future?

    Asked by: Evan
Good Day Evan, The App is controlling the controller and does not have Geofencing. Unfortunately we are not getting Geofencing in the near future. Thank You Glen Dimplex Americas Customer Service.

This product seems to get terrible reviews. Has the quality improved lately? My installation location is quite a ways from the store, and I don’t want to waste my time if I will be disappointed. Can you advise?

    Asked by: Coder
Good Day Coder, I apologize for the delay. As long as you have a strong wifi connection at the location you should have no issues. Please call us 888-346-7539 so we can go into more details. Thank You Glen Dimplex Americas Customer Service

I have a thermostat in each room hard wired in, can I program all my smart heaters to just one controller? also what do I put in place of my thermostats in each room?

    Asked by: BVDs
This controller and the "Smart" technology used by Dimplex for this system is complete garbage. I would strongly advise against buying this system. Not only is the programming of the controller beyond cumbersome and clumsy, the controller includes a non-rechargeable, non-replaceable battery that lasts mere hours for the purposes of initial pairing with the baseboards. Once it's dead, that's it. The controller needs to be plugged in 100% of the time, which limits it's placement to a desk/table and cannot be practically mounted on the wall. Onto the Dimplex Connex phone app. Also absolute garbage. Design is just as clunky as the controller design, and does not stay logged in or remember your login info, so you have to enter your email address and password every. time. you. open. the. app. There are scores of terrible reviews and complaints about the system & the app, but no updates have been issued in over 4 years, and complaints fall on deaf ears. Don't waste your money. If you're looking for a good heating system with connectivity, check out ConvectAir. Source: I'm an electrician and very technologically capable but this system does nothing but anger me every time I encounter it

Can the dimplex smart heaters and the dimplex connex wifi controller be used to completely turn the heaters off? Just wondering as sometimes the lowest setting is 5 degrees and that would not be good for my intended use

    Asked by: Colin
Colin, These are all single-pole thermostats meaning that they have no "off" position, just the low setting.
