Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lasted less than 5 years This lasted less than five years. I bought the stainless one in hopes it would last a long time. Probably the float switch, but im not going to waste my time fixing a rusty pump because it is a critical application and it does not look good for its age. I think that some other part would soon fail

I have an Everbilt pump, Mod SP05002VD, S/N 141895, Date Code 1712. At the end of the pumping cycle, the pump sucks in air. I think that the float goes down too far near the end of the cycle, and the pump continues to run for a very brief time, allowing the air to be sucked in. Can the float be adjusted and if yes, how? Second question, is that an inherent problem with this design, and has the design been improved since this serial number was manufactured? I'd hate to buy a new pump and have the same issue. I have tried to reposition the pump, didn't help.
Asked by: Lawrence
Lawrence, I assume you have a standard size sump. As you can see in the images of the pump, the float bottom is about 3 inches above the bottom of the pump. Mine (which I purchased last week at HD) leaves about 1.5 inches of water in my std. size sump so it cuts off pretty quickly once float is down. I do not hear it sucking air. I would assume that the float is adjustable so you can raise it higher on its support rod giving you more water capacity below the shut off point.

Should an air bleed hole be drilled (1/8") in the discharge pipe to prevent the pump from air locking?

Many sump pumps require an air bleed hole in the discharge pipe to prevent air locking. I am using a check valve and the installation instructions do not state this requirement. However, most sump pumps require the 1/8" hole to prevent the pump from air locking.
