I figured once I filled up the first, I could use it to store the compost in until I needed it while I continued filling up the second. I have had open compost cages in the past, but this is my first composter that is completely closed up (with the exception of the air vents), including a lid to keep out the critters. The one huge difference I found is that because of its black exterior and lid, it gets very hot inside. This is not a bad thing, but I find I am constantly adding water to keep it from drying out. Aside from this, I absolutely love this product and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to start composting.

I'm seeing if balancing a brick on top of the door will help so that it can't be slid up. Not ideal and I'm very disappointed. Thia should have been an obvious part of designing it. I followed all the instructions for installation. Guess they've never met raccoons in my area. They're smart.

Excellent size but a bit flimsy, the lid is difficult to remove and I'm betting that in the winter it'll be impossible to open up, and the bottom "door" doesn't seal properly...but I waited over a month for this to be delivered to store so I've made my own modifications to make it more useable so I don't have to wait for another one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy set up and use, but not pest resistant This is a great starter compost bin and really easy to set up. The top lid can be a bit finicky but I haven't had any issues with it being opened by pests. The bottom hatch, however, is easy peasy for racoons. I tried a few different things to keep it closed but nothing worked. In the end, I screwed the door shut. Not my preferred solution but the only thing that kept the racoons out. Overall, a good bin, but not pest-proof.

Since it is relatively easy for an animal to dig under the bottom, I put pavers around the bottom. Then the raccoons and other animals found a way to get into it. They were able to get in through the air vents. It would be a great product, but I think there could be a better way to keep out animals.

Can you clarify RE the base... "Yes, this composter does come with a base, the item number is EWC-202", however this item number it is referring to the Composter/Base/Rain Barrel package. If I order this item (EWC-30) will it come with a base?

Mine did not come with a base, although I'm not sure you would want one. I placed mine directly on the ground/dirt for proper drainage and exposure to the natural environment.

We only put in raw veggie and fruit scraps (no oils or greases or animal priducts-no dairy). Also put in the fallen leaves. Has a very bad odour- any idea why?

I mean compost will have a smell but if it’s composting correctly it should smell somewhat like earth. Make sure you are turning your compost to incorporate the leaves and yard trimmings. If the compost is too much veggies and fruits it can start to smell like rot and less like earth. Sometimes adding a bit of water will make sure it’s composting correctly. Hope this helps!

No it doesnt. It goes directly on the ground which allows the bugs and worms to get in to break down what is inside.
