I noticed the difference immidiately. Bot in cut quality, ease of maintaining a good cut, and safety during use. No walking to an area to use a power tool. Just a 15 second cut and on to the next peice. I made the comment to my wife to get me husky tools from now on, no joke.

Is this a rip saw or a cross-cut saw?

The saw works best doing crosscuts. If you can secure the work piece safely it could be rip cut.

I agree; this is highly important. In this case, as of 09/23/19, the cardboard sleeve on the Husky saw in question directly indicates that the saw is "assembled" in the USA from global components. For all I know, the blade and bolts are from China, the handle from Equador, and the whole thing was just screwed together in Alabama. This is not acceptable, and I do intend to return the unused one I bought.
