Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn’t work out if the box The instructions say plug intomodem and power up. What happened was plug in power up nothing. Reset modem plug in power up nothing. Factory reset modem, plug in power up nothing. Three hours with Xfinity trouble shooting modem to discover modem isnt the issue. Five hours working with philips via FB messenger during which I was asked to unplug modem and bridge and wait at least 30 seconds. Powered up after 5 minutes, reset modem plugged in Bridge left it connected for 7 hours and never got it to connect to the modem. Tried 2 different modems and 6 different ethernet cables. End result bridge and bulbs returned to store. Search for lighting solution continuing

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to add good lighting effects!! Phillips Hue strip lights is a great way to add lighting effects to your space. You need this bridge to connect your lights to the app. I would buy this strip light and bridge if you plan on using multiple strips to light up different areas, but if you only plan on using one or two strips it is pricy. Having control of the lights color and being able to create sequences really add huge value. Great product!!

I’d give a 5 for how awesome it is finally linked. (I read online user advice, and set all up through hue online rather than app. Now that that is done, I can use the app.). Averages out to 3. There must be a better way!

We are using the Philips Hue Smart Bridge to control both color 5 inch color downlights and 60 watt (equivalent) white bulbs. These can be individually scheduled, or scheduled as part of one or more groups to turn on at dusk and off at sunup. They are also controlled by Alexa for off schedule requirements. Setup was very simple, and the bulbs were immediately recognized by the hub. Pretty much set and forget, I am looking into dimmers and additional bulbs in the Philips ecosystem for other places around the house.

I have lights in my garage that the Bridge can not see. Can I add a second bridge, or do I need to run cat6 wire to a more centralized location for the Bridge to see all of the lights?
Asked by: leek
As I understand it, you can have multiple Bridges in the house. One constraint is that you would have to run an Ethernet cable to the second Bridge location. If this is not possible, look into one of the mesh routers, they can be daisy chained from your primary router or internet connection to a location near your garage. No wiring required, and you would hook the second Bridge up to one of the satellites. I use a mesh router for my devices.

Will this hub allow me to use the Philips Wiz lights via the Philips Hue app?
Asked by: Cilla34
No - the Philips WiZ bulbs connect directly to your wi-fi network and do not utilize the Hue Bridge or the Hue App. Philps WiZ bulbs can be controlled via the WiZ app.

Yes you can! Within the Hue app you can create a "room" and add in multiple bulbs into a room in order to control those bulbs simultaneously

Will I be able to control lights via my iPhone.?
Asked by: Paulieg
Yes, as with my Android phone, you have to download the app to set up lights connected to the hub. Once set up, you can program different scenes. Alexa and Google home can recall scenes and basic commands; lights on, lights off, dim, change color, etc. Hope this helps. John..

Is a bridge necessary? I have two bulbs and can easily control and dim from alexa

Asked by: Cj
There seem to be different versions of the Hue bulbs. I called Philips support and read the serial numbers to them and one of the bulbs came with the Echo starter kit. The other wouldn't work unless I had the bridge.

Do you have to have internet to operate these lights with full control? Ie. dim, color changes

Asked by: BRW
Strictly speaking, you do not have to have access to the internet to connect to and control the Hue Smart Bridge. I believe however; you need to at least have an internal network and the bridge communicates over IP to the app. So, a wireless router at a minimum. I'm not sure if the bridge will connect to the phone app via Bluetooth. Hope that helps. John..
