Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product I bought the mold test kit after watching the Dr. Oz show where they recommended using a dust collection kit for sampling to determine if there is mold in the home. The test kit was very easy to use and the directions were very clear. After taking the sample, I sent the kit along with my check in the prepaid envelope provided. A few days later I received an email that my sample had gotten to the lab. Just 2 days later, I received concise, easy to understand results along with recomendations of how to deal with the mold that were detected in my home! Will defenetely recommend this product to anyone who has concerns about there being mold in their home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really, dude?? Pay attention!! Truep287's review below is very misleading. The FRONT (and back) of the pacakge says "$40.00 LAB ANALYSIS FEE REQUIRED FOR LAB RESULTS" in a RED box next to where it says "Mold Test Kit" Look! Before you go write false reviews defamating a good (and necesary) product, please make sure the company screwed up, not you! I have used this product and their Radon tests because of my sons asthma and allergies and have no complaints. I bought it, READ it, followed the instructions, even called and got help from customer service and still have no complaints! Ignore him...try it yourself and make up your own mind.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You need to know the amount of mold in the air The petri dish method of the old version is basically not very valuable in seeing if you have unhealthy levels of mold. The problem is a petri dish will show mold even if its just a random spore drifting in from inside and gives you no idea of the concentration. There can be very small amounts of mold in air just from a random spore from outside, when it gets to a high level it becomes a serious problem, so you need a parts per million count or whatever. So Actually, a filter based method might give you a better idea of the concentration of mold which is what you need to know. You really, really need to know the concentrations of mold in your air and a test that will show that.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mold lost by lab. I purchased this mold kit, hundreds of mold spores showed up. I mailed off for testing in the envelope they provided on 7/6/15, handing it directly to the mail person. I called on 7/22/15 and I was told they did not receive my mold. Our family has been ill, my son with pneumonia and myself with muscle aches. The mold has since been cleared out of our condo by the owners-so retesting is not an option. There are no treatment options without knowing the type of mold, there is also less legal recourse. I spoke with a manager Aaron Molina from Pro-Lab and he said they receive hundreds of mold kits sometimes they are lost. I today looked up Pro-Lab and read that this is a common occurrence.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is AMAZING and so EASY! PRO-LAB's Do It Yourself Mold Test Kit is the easiest test I have ever used! After only 48 hours we had our results clear as day on the petri dish that comes with the kit. There is an optional lab analysis with not a terrible fee that we decided to take part in and we found out what types of molds we had in about a week! I recommend this product to anyone wanting to test since it is so simple and easy to use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Additional costs but totally worth it. My family and I moved into an apartment and about two weeks later we all developed upper respiratory infectio. My wife ended up with pneumoa. I purchased this kit and had to send off the kit and pay additional money for the lab testing but it was worth it...got a certificate proving that the apartment bathroom had four types of mold that could be hazardous to my families health. The apartment complex ended up allowing us to get out of our lease 11 months Early.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product has changed - do NOT buy. This product is called a "do it yourself" mold test kit and it is NOT. The other reviews are for an earlier model that allowed you to test for mold yourself with an option to send in for further analysis at a cost. This does not. You must send in the sample and a fee ($50.) to get a result. Customer service is terrible. I called for an answer about the DIY test and no person answers any phone. The CEO message gives you "dial #5 for customer service". When you do so, you are told that is not a valid extension. I left messages and sent an email - no response. This company is a joke and Home Depot needs to do a better job of evaluating products and vendors. Don't waste your money on this product. If they can't do the basics right like answer the phone I don't trust them to evaluate a dust sample for mold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I purchased two kits, one for outside and one for... I purchased two kits, one for outside and one for inside so I could compare. It was good to know the mold levels outdoors. I had a UV-C light installed in my furnace-airconditioner-air handler and the mold test showed that it is effective. A year prior I sent the sample for the optional lab test to know the exact strain of molds. For those new to mold, mycotoxins harm the liver creating CNS disfunction and a host of other conditions. To kill mold use hydrogen peroxide on wall surfaces, or bleach on non porous surfaces. Do not use bleach on porous plaster walls as the chlorine separates from the surface and only the water penetrates the wall allowing for mold growth.

If mold does grow at all does this mean you have an issue, or is some mold growth normal?

Asked by: Momofone
Habitable places have mold. Most are not harmful. A few are toxic. A few people get sick from non-toxic mold. Knowing you have mold & not knowing what kind, is meaningless. Knowing you have mold & not knowing the air outside is the same, is meaningless.

How much does the lab interpretation cost?

The unit itself costs under $10, but what is the additional fee to have a lab look at the cultures?
Asked by: Nikki
$40 and an extra $15 if you want an answer quickly. You cannot perform the test yourself. You must have the lab do the analysis with this product.

How reliable is this test? Is it prone to false positive/negative?

Simply placing a petri dish which shows mold growth does mot mean you have a mold problem in your home. Mold is found everywhere indoors and outdoors. It takes some species longer than 7 days to appear. Save your money and go with an EMSL ERMI Mold test kit. Also ask if the lab you are using has a Ph.D Degreed Mycologist on staff.

Asked by: Moldconcerned
Red container for air sample, sterile swab for location sample or bulk sample in baggie. No Petri dish (and petri gives you results at home. This kit does not)

How many samples in kit

Asked by: Cina
It offers the selection of ONE out of four methods. You do not get to use all four methods, which is unfortunate, especially when your home has multiple molds growing. And it does not tell you this until you open package and read inside instructions. It is $40 to have it analyzed, or $55 for expedited but you have to pay for overnight shipping to Florida in which you will receive email results within 48 hours after they receive and test the sample. There is no at-home results. The petrie dish one give you at-home results.
