I purchased this kit, two additional motion detectors, and a Ring camera. Setup was not smooth. One of the motion detectors would not connect to the system. It said install failed and I had to call support. Ring support walked me through a lengthy remove/install z-wave device process buried deep in the app menus (why isn't this option presented as a button when an install fails?) Currently there are still ghosts in this system. Devices have disappeared from the app, although they still give alerts when they detect activity. For the door sensor, it shows as "closed" when the door is over an inch open, so if you forget to shut/lock a door, the system may not alert you. The app frequently asks me to "wait..." after every few taps. It also goes through a "connecting..." phase throughout the day. The dashboard doesn't seem to be customizable, so adding your favorite sensor is not an option, you need to dig down for the info. Wifi connection strength is expressed in a confusing RSSI level. Clicking the "?" button takes you to a page that does nothing to explain if the number means strong, weak, acceptable, or anything else meaningful to the user. The camera is only 1080p, so you won't know who stole your package, only that it was stolen. This is a feature, not a bug, if you want higher resolution, just choose another brand. I mounted my camera sideways for a better view (the normal orientation showed me mostly the side of the house) and it works great this way. Mounting was relatively simple, although there were no instructions, so it too a while to get started, most of which was spent searching the Ring site for instructions. There are no equipment manual links from the product listings. The help files contains many sets of instructions for various mounting systems, but I never found the one for my particular camera and there doesn't seem to be an organizational system or meaningful search function where you can enter a model number. Ring "neighbors" gives you a glimpse into the lives of everyone complaining about each kid who wanders near their yard. The overall quality of the app and hardware is marginal. Yes, it's a functioning alarm system (I hope so at least, since it keeps going off/on line) but it's nothing I would recommend. In all, I'd say the Ring system is designed around appearance and sales, rather than functionality, customer satisfaction, or ease of use.
