The straps do not sit 'flush' with the underside of the handrail when installed over the bracket. Are straps intended to be 'bent' around bracket to screw into the handrail? or Is the gap between strap and the handrail intended to remain?

Just tried to install the extended bracket model and the straps are too wide - they do not fit flush in the bracket pocket - all seven bracket sets I purchased are the same way - defective! Called local store and asked them to open a package from the floor stock and the same issue - defective bracket! They opened a short style bracket the fit is good - ie. strap fits flush into the bracket notch. Looks like Everbilt has a years worth of defective product - Hmmm! not cool. Probably should have pulled the product when you started getting field defect reports.
