It doesnt have the advanced features, but I only used it less than 5 times a year. It has both standard depth and deep scan options for finding studs under most materials. It has live wire detction that will warn you that live electrical wires are in the area your scanning. The best feature is the illuminated arrow that displays of the wall when a stud is found. This makes it very easy to mark your studs. PROS: All features that are needed for a DIYer. CONS: The pads on the back only work on smooth surfaces, otherwise get caught up a lot

I needed to make a fairly large hole in the exterior wall for a dog door, and I wanted to accurately know where the studs were, before tearing up the drywall. My $7 stud finder gave me all kinds of locations, and I did not feel confident with the readings, so I bought the HD55. The HD55 gave me readings along the wall that were all less than a half-inch of each other. After cutting out the drywall, it was clear that the HD55 was spot-on in locating all of the studs. The wall that I was cutting out was near a receptacle as well. The HD55 did not alert to any live wires under the wall, and none were there. This stud-finder was a huge improvement over the "bargain" stud finder that I had used before.

HI readers, I don't like return merchandise, but I've been thinking seriously to ask for my $20 back. What features stand out most? N/A What do you like or dislike about it? It is accurate to display red-lights and make me believe there is a stood behind the wall; however, from all holes I opened, the device missed almost 50% of the times. How long have you had it? For one month, just after I move to a new apartment and I didn't want to be so invasive on the walls. Does it meet your expectations? Not even close. I got a less expensive/fancy device that I lost during the move that worked much better than this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Unit It was simple to use with good instructions. Works better than an older Craftsman unit that I have. Especiallly like the unit proectioon of an arrow to mark the detection of the side o a stud. As with any of these units yoiu have to stop and think if what it seems tobe telling you makes sense. I.E. if you have a stud there should be another one 16" on either side. Ttest with a small drill bit like a 1/16" to see if you are in wood before commiting to a large hole or cut.

Decided to get another one with newer technology and doubling my chances of finding one. First one I got did nothing but click-click-click no matter what I did. Took it back to Home Depot and exchanged. Got home and still nothing but click-click-click. Read instructions cover to cover. Went to web site. No help. Tried it one last time before taking it back for a refund and what do you know...it started working. Do not understand why but it seems to be working fine. Only concern is will it work the next time I pull it out in the middle of a project.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A Big mistake My house flooded so all my tools are buried away in one of those driveway storage facilities, including the stud finder I've used for years and which worked flawlessly. After the drywall and painting were completed I wanted to rehang the same shelves I put up years ago using that old stud finder, so I bought this item. I ignored the numerous bad reviews for this product. Big mistake. I was appalled that this thing could not produce the same result twice in a row. It was, however, pretty good at finding air behind the wallboard. If I worked for Zircon I'd be embarrassed to have my name on this junk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NICE tool I’ve owned several Stud finders in the past, they all seemed to kind-of beep when something was on the opposite side of the Drywall. Problem with most of the cheaper ones – Batteries, they use those little round batteries that end up costing more than a replacing the tool. When I needing a replacement Stud finder, ran across this one, not expecting much from it but it works really nice and runs on a normal 9 volt battery. Read the packing for all the fancy things it does but it lights up on the edge of the stud and shines a red line above the tool – just makes the job so much easier –

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Its a paper weight. I went in looking for a Milwaukee stud finder like my old one that got damged and found only whatever this brand is and ryobi. Bought this went home opened it up and put in a brand new battery. Does literally nothing. Put it on a wall and pressed the button. Not a sound or a light or anything. Junk. Why does home depot do this. Get rid of everything that works and replace it with junk. I will only be returning to home depot to get my money back and shopping elsewhere from now on.

Set for normal scan first .. Then try deep scan. Practice localizing .. Once it hits a stud edge and lights up, stop moving, release the button and press it again this will narrow the focus down to the stud.
