Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must Have Tool Prior to purchasing this handy tool, I was cutting hinges with a chisel by hand, which worked ok but was very laborious, took too much time, and was not the most smooth or accurate cut. This tool made the work of cutting door hinges super easy, literally took 5 minutes to complete, and that included getting the tools out and setting up. The cuts themselves took 30 seconds each for a perfect and smooth cut. Definitely recommend getting one of these.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Handy but not precise for square hinges I bought this yesterday to do 8 doors. My hinges are square and the jig is not precise for the width. The cut is not wide enough, I have to move the jig to make it wider. It's a design flaw cause the notch of the adjustable tab is not centered so when you flip it for square It's not wide enough. It's good for the round hinges though. I have lots of Ryobi tools but very disappointed with that one.

I replaced 12 doors in my house and the template accommodated all of the different variations of hinges in my house. It is plastic so if you slip with the router you can mess it up pretty quick. I bought 2 of them just in case but didn't need the second one and because the price was really good!

I knew that if I had to mortise the hinges, I would make a mess of it. This tool completely solved that problem. Extremely easy to use.

The included bit is an added bonus. For very square hinges you will need a little bit of a chisel but that is all.

Do I need a router to be able to use this? Would a drill work or not?

A router is required for this jig, which by the way woks extremely well. If you are replacing a door, align the two doors side by side and mark the hinge positions on the new door, then attach the jig and router the hinge pocket.

Great Jig, but how do I use it to mortise the door jam as well? This is great for notching the hinge on the door, but I need to notch the door jam as well. From what I can tell, this jig doesn't do that, and if that is the case, does Ryobi sell one?

Can this be used for 5/8 corner hinges? Does it have a different settings for 5/8 corner hinges?

Yes. This guide is adjustable. I did find that I had to pay attention to the guide settings as they did not hold.  But it did do the job.  I had 7 doors to hang with 3 hinges per door. And of course the frames needed hinges attached.  Very satisfied with the results.
