Rated 4 out of 5 by from You still need the extension hose I used this with the Benzomatic propane bottle to melt crack filler into my driveway. By virtue of melting something on the ground I needed to tilt the bottle on its side, revealing an issue with the torch head (but would most likely affect any other head as well). This would cause flare ups, slowing down my work. On its own the torch head is a good purchase, but you limit yourself if you do not also purchase the extension hose. The self igniting feature with the press of the red button is a nice feature. Every so often the flame would go out and I would have to depress the red button to get the flame going again. I'm not sure why the flame would go out, but it was easy enough to get it back going. This is simple to screw onto the bottle or extension hose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable And Durable Torch I was able to replace my water heater with this kit. Having zero prior experience, I desoldered a couple joints using the gas tank and used the included flux and solder to put about 6 copper pieces together. No leaks and I still have stuff left. I read it is hard to light the torch. I don't have experience with other products, but I was able to get it lit with a lighter after I adjusted the valve a few times. Usually lit within 10 seconds or less. It is a great little plumbing starter torch kit. Only thing I overlooked was needing a way to light it. you need your own matches, wand or striker. I ended up buying the separate striker torch end.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You get what you Pay for This is (as stated by manufacturer) a basic torch head that has the bonus of Self Ignition. Many other posts enfaces on the torch going out when gas tank was tilted or set to an angle. I found the solution by combining this troch head with an extension hose. No flame going out, no fire still burning after regulator is turned off and it is easier to maneuver just the head than using the entire body of propane tank. Safe yourself the frustration and buy the extension hose along with this torch head.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quickly returned this product out of safety concerns. More often... Quickly returned this product out of safety concerns. More often than not, turning the regulator knob into the off position would extinguish the flame but not stop the flow of gas. In order to actually stop it from pumping propane into the room, I had to twist the torch head all the way off the bottle. Replaced it with the upgraded version for around $12 more and have not had any problems with the regulator, though I will say that the larger nozzle makes the assembly very top-heavy and prone to tipping over when you set it down, often with an extremely hot tip that then comes into contact with things on the floor.

I had a small plumbing job, so I bought this all in one kit. Although the solder and flux containers are large, there is virtually nothing in them. The quality of the solder and flux is terrible. Fotunately I ran out of solder and I bought Oakley flux and solder. It made a huge difference. Sweating pipes should be easy but the "Benzomatic solder/flux made the process challenging. I don't know if it was the solder or flux; or both but it was really hard to work with. Strongly recommend buying the torch only and get Oakley solder/flux.

The only problem was the starter didn't work and I was too lazy and did not have time to return it. Had to light it with a match. Once lit, the tank lasted a long time, was easy to use and was easy to control. I did not use it as a plumber. As an artist, I used it to char wood - Shou Sugi Ban

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst product Bernzomatic has ever made This plastic piece of garbage is not up to the standards people come to expect from the Bernzomatic name. They used to be known for high quality American made products. Now, since Worthington has taken over, they have replaced their ever popular brass American made torch with this steaming pile. It is everything you have come to expect from cheaply produced, overpriced big box store consumer grade plastic garbage. After only a small amount of use they fail to light. The electric spark still fires, but the torch won't ignite. I take one back about every 60 days for this reason. Don't ever trust this thing as your only source of fire! Also, the flame it produces is very uneven and hard to control the size of. Not sharp and precise like previous Bernzomatic products. Finally, if you ever drop this thing, don't expect it to hold together like a well made tool. It will shatter and brake like a dollar store party glass. Worthington has destroyed yet another great American brand name.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Honestly one of the worst product I have ever bought I needed to soldier some copper water fittings and I decided to ignore the warnings about this and get one anyway. How bad could it be, right? Well before I could get one fitting done, the clicker stopped working. To add insult to injury I couldn't even get the torch to light with a lighter due to the inherent design flaw that doesn't allow air to mix with the propane before it reaches the end of the nozzle. Propane needs to mix with air before it becomes flammable. A complete and utter engineering fail as you will notice it is a smooth bore all the way to the end rendering it useless should the clicker fail. Avoid at all costs.

In my case I just buy extra replacement bottles but if you can find the attachments from it the larger bottles it should be possible. The cost of replacement bottles is really cheap.

Will this torch head go out if it is tilted or turned upside down

Asked by: Hogleg
Thank you for choosing Bernzomatic! This torch does not have a regulator and is meant for small jobs. Without a regulator, you cannot tilt this torch for very long. The torch will become propane saturated and shut off. If you are looking for a torch that you can invert with no problem, I would suggest the TS3500, TS4000 or the TS8000. If you have any more questions, please email us at Bernzomatic@WorthingtonIndustries.com.

Can this be used to weld metal? i am trying to weld a damaged radiator pipe, which i believe is metal
Asked by: obi
This will not weld metal. Welding temperatures must be hot enough to melt the piece you're working on, not just the filler material. This is intended for soldering only. For example, applying solder to a piece of pipe that fits inside the flange of a copper elbow joint. The solder is just there for waterproofing, not structural strength.
