DIY Pantry Cabinet

Creating a DIY pantry cabinet using in-stock cabinets is a great way to get a custom look and a lot of storage for a fraction of the cost. This tall pantry cabinet uses multiple kitchen boxes and drawers for a floor-to-ceiling solution that can be tailored to fit any kitchen area. Here's a video and step-by-step guide to help you build your very own pantry.

Skill Level: Expert
Time:
  1. A bare wall is shown. Gather Materials for your DIY Pantry

To start, we’ll need to gather the materials for this project. For this exact project, you will need two base cabinets, two middle cabinets and two upper cabinets. The finished height for these parts, once assembled, is about 104 inches (8.5 feet) tall, so be sure to measure and make sure everything will fit.

    To begin, you’ll need:

You’ll also need some drawer pulls, door handles, some finishing panels, a drill with some wood screws and some drywall anchors if you’re planning on mounting this to a wall where there are no studs in the correct area.

Next, clear the space of debris and dirt and make sure to protect your floors with a tarp.

Be sure to follow the instruction guides for each cabinet.

  2. A person assembles a drawer. Assemble the Pantry Base Cabinets

Assemble the base cabinets according to the instruction manual. Install the drawer connectors and attach legs and make sure they are levelled. Using a clamp, secure and screw both base cabinets together so you have a 48-inch-wide base. For additional support, secure to the wall using nails or screws and drywall anchors if needed.

Check out Eurostyle’s cabinet assembly video tutorial for more detailed instructions.

  3. Three cabinets are shown stacked on each other. Build the Middle Cabinets

Assemble two of the middle pantry cabinets and place it on top of the base pantry cabinets. Make sure the fronts on the stacked cabinets are flush and levelled. Use a clamp and secure the middle cabinets with screws onto the lower base cabinets. For additional support, secure with screws onto the wall as well.

  4. A person places peel & stick wallpaper on the inside of their cabinet. Build the Upper Cabinets

Assemble the two upper pantry cabinets. You can customize your pantry by adding peel & stick wallpaper on the back panel of the cabinets, as this will be open, so you’ll be able to see it. Place and secure the two upper cabinets on top of the middle cabinets with screws. Use clamps to hold them in place and make sure the fronts of the cabinets are flush and level with each other before attaching them. Secure the entire pantry to the wall with more screws and drywall anchors if needed.

  5. A person attached the doors to their middle cabinet. Attach Doors on the Middle Cabinets

Place the doors on the middle cabinets and attach them to the pre-drilled hinges.

  6. A person slides a drawer into their cabinet. Install Drawers on the Base Cabinets

Next, slide all the drawers into the bottom base cabinets. Each base cabinet has three drawers.

  7. A white pantry is shown. Apply Panel Boards to Pantry Sides

Measure and cut panel boards to cover the side exteriors of the pantry - from floor to ceiling - for a built-in look. Screw the panel boards to each side of the cabinet. Drill pilot holes to ensure the wood doesn’t crack. Install a top panel board if there is space between the ceiling and the top cabinets.

  8. A person applies a toe kick to the bottom of their pantry. Add a Toe Kick to Pantry

Measure and cut a toe kick to cover the feet of the base cabinets and attach it with glue or screws.

  9. A person attaches crown moulding to their cabinet with a brad nailer. Add Crown Moulding

To complete the built-in look, add crown moulding to the top of the cabinet on all three sides and into the ceiling with a finishing nailer.

  10. A person measures their drawer to add handles. Add Door Handles and Drawer Pulls

Use a template to mark pilot holes and then install door handles and drawer pulls on the middle and base cabinets.

  11. A finished DIY Pantry is shown. Finish with Puck Lights

Finally, add puck lights to the underside of the upper cabinets to spotlight any decorative items on your shelves.
